Berthoud Police Beat – November
Monday, November 1
A 1978 Ford truck was taken from the parking lot at Log Cabin Liquor.
A report from 400 Mountain Avenue was attributed to wind damage.
A noise complaint in the 1500 block of Fourth Street was a loud music system and the responding officer gave the players a verbal warning.
A written warning was placed upon an unlicensed vehicle parked in the 900 block of Seventh Street.
Police responded to the 100 block of Welch Avenue on the report of dogs on the loose. The dogs were put back in their yard.
Another day of assists with five business assists, one ambulance assist, one citizen assist and five other assists. There were no traffic stops made during the day.
Tuesday, November 2
A report of criminal mischief at Lake Avenue and County Road 17 is listed as unfounded.
Railroad ties were take from the 500 block of Second Street.
Also listed as unfounded is the report of cows loose at Longview Avenue and Kansas Avenue.
A kitten was found and a summons issued in the 300 block of Victoria Street
A parking ticket was issued for a vehicle in the 500 block of Mount Massive Avenue.
Police responded to an animal complaint on Keep Circle, but found nothing when they arrived.
Another animal complaint, this one at 11 p.m. on South Ninth Street, is listed as unfounded.

Wednesday, November 3
Police performed several extra patrols during the reporting period. The four morning patrols were along Second Street.
An injured Hawk was found on the south side of Water Avenue. The raptor was turned over to Raptor Rescue.
Police are investigating a report of an alcohol violation at a business on East Highway 56.
A loose dog in the 1000 block of First Street garnered its owner a verbal warning.
A group of juveniles, several boys and two sub-teen girls were the source of several calls. The kids visited the police station first and then walked west on Mountain Avenue causing mayhem. In the first call they were throwing objects onto Mountain Avenue causing a hazard. Later they were hanging around in front of Hays Market and then ran across Mountain Avenue in traffic and headed toward Turner Middle School. There was also a report of the juveniles threatening a pedestrian. The officers never quite caught up with them.
A computer crime report filed last month by the Main Street program was determined to be unfounded. The District Attorney’s office found lack of probable cause to believe a crime was committed.
Two concerned citizens called about a 6 or 7-year-old girl they saw sitting on the curb crying at Third Street and Bimson Avenue. An officer responded and learned that the little girl had been disciplined by her grandmother and was sad.
A noisy party at the Hastings Apartments had quieted down by the time police arrived.

Thursday, November 4
The daily log lists nine extra patrols at points all over the town.
A striped cat found on Munson Court was sent to the Humane Society.
A door-to-door salesperson was reported on Michigan Avenue, but the police were unable to locate the person.
Police recovered a stolen vehicle on Keep Circle. The car had been taken in Adams County.
A motor vehicle accident at 1700 Exeter Street was a hit and run.

Friday, November 5
A horse was reported in the road at County Road 10E and County Line Road. Handled by officer.
A vehicle parked in the alley in the 300 block of Michigan Avenue was issued a written warning.
Four Juveniles riding their bikes in the Conoco parking lot were gone when police arrived,
Police responded to a disturbance in the 800 block of Greenwood Drive. He found neighbors having an argument about a barking dog. Handled by Officer.
Police assisted Berthoud Fire at Eighth Street and Hummingbird Place when kids started a fire by shooting fireworks into a grassy area. Report to follow.

Saturday, November 6
An aggressive barking dog in the 300 block of E. Colorado Avenue earned its owner a written warning.
The barking dog on South Ninth Street was handled by the officer and no warning was issued.
A verbal disturbance at E Michigan Avenue and First Street was an altercation between vehicles racing in the area whose occupants had thrown a beer can at someone. The someone called the police. Somebody got a summons.

Sunday, November 7
A man on Bunyan Court shot himself in the hand at 12:30 a.m. Report to follow.
A dog found in the 700 block of Welch is listed as a nice Black Lab. It still ended up at the Humane Society.
An ATV being ridden on the street at Third and Franklin got its riders a verbal warning.
A barking dog in the 100 block of E. Iowa caused complaint to the police. The residents were given a verbal warning.
In a physical disturbance in the 1500 block of Fourth Street, an intoxicated person claimed he had been assaulted. A sober witness said he not be assaulted, Police found no criminal violation
Monday, November 8
A Third Street resident reported a suspicious individual in the area at 2:30 a.m. Police found an early morning (late night) jogger.
A driver was issued a summons for driving under suspension.
Two vehicles were involved in an accident, no injuries, at Berthoud High School about half past three in the afternoon.

Tuesday, November 9
The only entries on the dispatch log for November 9 are two reports of a barking dog in the 500 block of South Ninth Street, two loose dogs on South Third Street, a citizen asking a code question and a 911 telephone call hang-up.
Wednesday, November 10
Someone dumped trash along Weld County Road 7.
The police tried to assist in retrieving a cat in the storm drain by Gateway. However, the cat ran away. The officer set a trap and checked it over the next several days, but the cat never came back.
A man who had been contacted by officers on County Road 1 reported that he had been harassed and requested charges against the officers. Listed as unfounded.
Several assists and extra patrols make up the bulk of the dispatch log entries.
Graffiti was discovered on a building in the 700 block of Seventh Street.
A BMX style bicycle was found near Berthoud Elementary School.
A traffic hazard was reported at County Road 8 and U.S. Highway 287. A box was removed from the roadway.

Thursday, November 11
A verbal disturbance on Douglas Place brought a response from the police. The 6:30 a.m. altercation was a continuance of a previous incident.
A Cedar Drive resident reported hearing gunshots at 7:15 a.m., but police were unable to locate a source.
A resident in the 1000 block of Sixth Street reported receiving a “scam letter.”
Police found three abandoned vehicles during the day. One was on Sioux Drive, one on Bunyan Avenue and one on Redwood Circle.
Police responded to a motor vehicle accident at Highway 56 and U.S. Highway 287 shortly after 11 p.m. The vehicle had rolled and was on its top and there were injuries. A 25-year-old Longmont man was issued a citation for careless driving and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Friday, November 12
A Nebraska Avenue resident had questions about the conduct of a neighbor who swears at children.
A Meadowlark Drive resident was concerned about a man in a truck talking to children at the bus stop.
A Berthoud Elementary student reported the theft of a diabetic meter.
A 16-year-old Longmont male was issued a citation for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at Berthoud High School.
A two-car accident at Highway 56 and U.S. Highway 287 did not cause any injuries. A Longmont woman was issued a citation for careless driving.

Saturday, November 13
The day started off just as yesterday had ended; with a two-car accident. This 8 a.m. fender bender took place at Spartan Avenue and Fifth Street. It is listed as non-injury. A Berthoud woman was issued a citation for careless driving.
Police continued to check the cat trap at Gateway, took care of an abandoned vehicle on Seventh Street and dealt with an injured hawk east of town.
An abandoned vehicle in the 900 block of Seventh Street was towed.
There were two 911 hang-up calls.

Sunday, November 14
This was a traffic stop and barking dog day for police. Officers made seven traffic stops and issued three tickets.
The barking dog complaints were both in the Hillsdale Subdivision, one in the 800 block of Greenwood Drive, the other on South Ninth Street. Both cases were “Handled by Officer.”

A Second Street resident reported the theft of yard decorations.
Police made a warrant arrest in the 1500 block of Majestic Drive.
Police investigated an attempted break-in of a home on South First Street.
Police were unable to find a loose pit bull on Colorado Avenue.

Wednesday, November 17
A North Fourth Street resident called police after someone rang the doorbell at 12:20 a.m.
Police made six traffic stops and issued one summons. The summons was issued to a 17-year-old Berthoud resident for speeding, careless, driving and operating an uninsured vehicle.
A citation was also issued for a parking violation at Berthoud High School.
Police responded to the 400 block of Bimson Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. on a call of a physical disturbance. This became a domestic violence issue and a 24-year-old Berthoud resident was arrested.

Thursday, November 18
No one was injured when a vehicle went off the road at 1:40 a.m. the incident occurred at U.S. Highway 287 and County Road 17. The driver, a 20-year-old Larimer County resident was charged with careless driving.
Police are investigating the burglary of buildings and storage trailers in the 700 block of Second Street.
Police were called when teens got into a fight at Berthoud High School around lunchtime.
While at the school, the officer issued a citation for a parking violation.
A loose Black Lab in the 800 block of Greenwood Drive has a report to follow.
A verbal warning was given in a rock-throwing incident at Third Street and Mountain Avenue. It appears that a rock was thrown through the window.

Friday, November 19
A resident in the 800 block of Fourth Street received a written warning for tree limbs in the alley.
Another abandoned vehicle was found, this one at the L&M Garden Center.
Someone came to the police station to complain about computer tampering by their ex.
Kids on 287 throwing rocks at 9:30 p.m. and a loose dog at Ivy Stockwell Elementary at 10 p.m. finish off the incidents for the day.

Saturday, November 20
There were three reported episodes of cars being the victims egg throwers; the first was at 3:30 a.m. in the 600 block of South Ninth Street, the second incident was in the 500 block of South Ninth Street at 3 p.m. where nine cars were pelted. The last reported incident occurred a few minutes later on Marshall Place.
Police helped extricate a baby locked in the vehicle in the 700 block of Second Street.
A motor vehicle accident in the 300 block of Nebraska Avenue was a hit and run involving a parked, unattended car.
A barking dog in the 900 block of Sixth Street earned its owner a written warning.
A missing dog report was filed by a Seventh Street resident.
An errant dog was spotted by police near Third Street and Michigan Avenue. A verbal warning was give to the owner.

Monday, November 22
A three-car motor vehicle accident and County Road 17 and Mountain Avenue is listed as non-injury.
The one car accident at First Street and Bunyan Avenue an hour later is also listed as non-injury.
Police made several traffic stops by issued no summonses.
Tuesday, November 23
Police made three traffic stops during the day, but no citations were issued.
A large amount of trash was dumped along County Road 7 south of Highway 56.
Police have responded to many calls through out the week about door to door solicitors. Such soliciting in Berthoud requires a permit from the town. Several of the calls were about Kirby Vacuum Cleaner salesmen and they did have a permit. However, the Kirby sales are the only active permits at the present time. A caller from the 900 block of Wilshire Drive said that solicitors who came the their door claimed not to need a permit. They were gone by the police arrived or they might have learned otherwise.
Wednesday, November 24
Police responded to the Berthoud Living Center on a disturbance call. One resident had grabbed another by the wrist. The victim did not want to prosecute.
In another call to the living center, there was a report of a person being excessively rough in handling an elderly resident. Again, the victim did not want to prosecute.
Police received several more calls about solicitors, all turned out to be Kirby salesmen who had permits. Reports are that these sales people have been obnoxious and there is no permit that allows that.
A call about gunshots turned out to be fireworks in the 800 block of Greenwood Drive.
Thursday, November25
Thanksgiving Day was very quiet from a law enforcement standpoint.
Police were unable to find a lost Lab on Fourth Street.
Officers did two citizen assists and made one extra patrol at Berthoud Elementary School
Friday, November 26
The Day after Thanksgiving was also relatively quiet in spite of starting off with a 1:30 a.m. call about a white cow in the middle of County Road 4E near County Road 17. The caller said the cow looked like it wanted back in the pasture and said he would wait at the scene. Despite the fact that the area is outside the town’s limits, an officer responded to the call.
A resident called to ask about phone calls. The call to police is listed as being about harassment.
Police assisted Berthoud Fire at the scene of vehicle fire in the 1000 block of Fourth Street. The engine compartment of a truck was aflame.
Saturday, November 27
Police responded to a disturbance in the 900 block of First Street. The altercation was a disagreement over ownership of a dog.
There were more solicitation calls and while several of the calls involved the Kirby solicitors, a teen selling books in the 600 block of Eighth Street was issued a citation for not having a permit.
A barking dog complaint in the 300 block of Seventh Street resulted in a written warning.
Sunday, November 28
Six Sunday drivers were stopped for various reasons and three of them received tickets.
An on-going situation in the 400 block of Colorado Avenue has apparently led to threats being made. The individual involved was given a verbal warning.
There were two barking dog calls. The pooch on Sixth Street was quiet when police arrived. The owners of the dog in the 200 block of E Iowa were not so fortunate and received a verbal warning about the noise.
Monday, November 29
Four traffic stops resulted in three summonses.
Police found no violation when they responded to a report of a restraining order violation.
A dad heard yelling in the background while speaking with his daughter on the phone and asked police to check up on her. All was quiet when police arrived.
Tuesday, November 30
Railroad ties were reported stolen from a business on Second Street.
A Franklin Avenue resident reported that some one had added themselves to her long distance telephone account with out her authorization. Police have requested the documentation the service provider received.
Police received two calls about an improperly parked backhoe in the 300 block of Seventh Street. The first call was handled by the officer, a second call soon after was the complainant cancelling the complaint.
Wednesday, December 1
A motor vehicle accident involving a Toyota and a Jeep at County Road 5 and E Highway 56 resulted in injuries.
An argument in progress in the 400 block of Mountain Avenue remained verbal and the officer found no criminal violation.
A physical disturbance call in the 900 block of Mountain Avenue resulted in the officer giving a verbal warning to two adult males and one adult female
Fireworks were reported in the area of Fourth Street and Capital Avenue, but the officer was unable to locate the fireworks
