Business Briefs: Voss Opens Commercial Brokerage

Ken Voss of Berthoud has officially opened a new venture — Voss Commercial Real Estate Services. He made the switch from agency to an independent home-based brokerage, specializing in industrial and office land transactions for clients all along the northern Front Range.

“I wanted to create a business that fits my vision, and doing it independently is the best way to do it,” Voss said.

Formerly of RealTec of Loveland, Voss sees a lot of opportunity in the current market. “People are needing more to get their transactions done. They need a level of service, and now I have the freedom to do so with more flexibility.”

Voss has been an active contributor to the Berthoud Economic Resource Team, although he is not an official member.

Brick Oven Seized
Equipment for the Berthoud restaurant Brick Oven has been seized by the Colorado Department of Revenue for nonpayment of state sales taxes. Last week, state officials closed the restaurant and placed a “seized” sign on the door.

Mark Couch, spokesman for the CDR, reported the restaurant owes the state approximately $8,700 in back taxes. Business owners collect 2.9 percent on sales from customers and are then required to make monthly reports and remit that full amount to the state. Couch stated the department has been pursuing the Brick Oven case for over a year.

The equipment, valued at more than $38,000, is owned by Dominic’s Pizza and Subs, LLC of Windsor, who could not be reached for comment at time of press.

There are no outstanding taxes, and 2009 property taxes have been paid in full by Colorado Real Estate, LLC, which owns the building located at 269 Mountain Ave. in Berthoud.
