Crystal Fire Residents with Property Loss Urged to Call

Residents in the Crystal Fire area who lost property are asked to call Larimer County Emergency Manager Erik Nilsson to report their loss.  The number is 970-498-5310.  If the number is busy or there is no answer, they should leave a voicemail message with their contact information. The emergency manager is interested in any property loss, houses, trailers, vehicles, sheds, et cetera. Crystal Fire: April 7 – Road Blocks lifted at noon

  The Larimer County Sheriff's Office issued emergency phone notifications to residents in the Crystal Fire area this morning notifying them that the existing roadblocks will be lifted at noon today. The Sheriff is requesting that everyone limit unnecessary traffic in the area as the roads are slippery and there is still a great deal of heavy emergency equipment on the roads along with movement of the firefighters.  The public is reminded that many roads in that area are private roads ... By Ardella Hawks formerly of Loveland and Berthoud I saw smoke five miles west of my house up Buckhorn Road on Friday evening. Emergency responders kept going up the road throughout the day. On Saturday the fire burned all day, moving east with wind gusts of 70 mile per hour. Everything happened so fast, and before we knew it, the fire was on the ridge south of our house. Governor declares disaster emergency for Crystal Fire

              DENVER ­— Monday, April 4, 2011 — Gov. John Hickenlooper issued a disaster emergency declaration today for the Crystal Fire in Larimer County. This declaration will authorize $1.7 million in state aid to help pay firefighting costs. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency has authorized the use of federal funds to help with firefighting costs. The Crystal Fire may be larger, but there was some excitement in Berthoud on Saturday afternoon as firefighters responded to a fire Pioneer Sand Company. David and Julie Dowen of Mead happened to be on had to takes some photos. According to Ms. Dowen, the desk clerk told her that a customer had come into the office and said, "Hey, your mulch is on fire." The call went out to Berthoud Fire who responded to cool things off.
