Students appreciate teachers too
May 3 to May 7 is Teacher Appreciation Week. The Thompson School District has several events that show teacher appreciation. Last week, the Thompson Education Association’s Crystal Apple Awards recognized some of the district’s outstanding teachers as nominated by their colleagues in the profession. Berthoud Police Beat, April, 2010
Thursday, April 1 April Fool’s day was relatively calm as police received two BOLO reports, made three assists and made one traffic stop. The traffic stop was at Seventh Street and Bunyan Avenue and the driver was give a verbal warning. Friday, April 2 A driver stopped by police at 3 a.m. was give a verbal warning. An apple for the teacher
The Thompson Education Association (TEA) gathered at Loveland’s Chilson Center on Friday afternoon for the ninth annual Crystal Apple Awards. This year 16 teachers were nominated by their peers for their teaching excellence. The awards are given by the TEA with financial assistance from Goodwin Financial and Horace Mann insurance. Abby Yeagle recipient of Jabaily Community Service
The Jabaily Community Service Scholarship commorates Dr. Joe Jabaily’s deep commitment to community service. The Scholarship is given annually to graduating seniors in the Thompson School District. Jabaily served as president of the Thompson Board of Education. The award is available to any college bound senior in good standing whose life activities include political and environmental activism, concern for civil rights and minorities, support for world peace and respect for the diverse ... Big changes coming for Berthoud’s Pioneer Park
The Parks and Open Space Committee meeting last week opened with a presentation P.J. DiPentino. He introduced Alan Wasson, who will be taking over as the director for the BMX track. DiPentino came to ask the committee to recommend some level of support from the town for track maintenance. He described the benefits of the track for the town and the number of hours he spent marinating the track. Obituaries: Robert Roark, Verda Silbaugh
Robert Thomas Roark Robert “Bob” Thomas Roark died on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009. He was 73 years old. Born on April 22, 1935, in Rock Falls, Ill., Roark was the son of Jeanette (Andrews) and Howard Roark. He married Mary Jo Wright on Nov. 25, 1954, in Princeton, Ill. The couple then moved to Colorado in 1957. Roark owned and operated Longmont Signs and Decals from 1964 to 1976, and then served as pastor of Tri-Town Baptist Church until his retirement from full-time ministry in 1993. He spent ... Mobleys to Celebrate 40th Anniversary
Lloyd and Linda Mobley will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Feb. 19, 2009. They met at Azars Big Boy Restaurant in Denver where they both worked. They were married in 1969 in Redondo Beach, Calif. at the home of Lloyd’s mother, Dorothy. Before settling in Berthoud, they also lived in Denver, Alamosa, Loveland, California and Oregon. (more…)
Obituaries: Kay Carter, Donna Klump
Kay A. Carter Kay Adele Carter of Berthoud, passed away at McKee Medical Center Hospice Care Center on Feb. 12, 2009. She was 69 years old. Born to Chester Ellenberger and Viola Smith Ellenberger in Grand Island, Neb. on Dec. 18, 1939, she grew up in Fort Collins, graduating from Fort Collins High School in 1958. Carter worked as a secretary/paralegal for over 18 years in Berthoud and served on the planning commission for Larimer County. Besides her love for law, she equally loved her family. ... Full Story
