Additional Meningitis case confirmed
The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment reports that another case of meningococcal disease in a Fort Collins area resident has been confirmed. The affected individual is also associated with the two hockey teams in Division C of the adult league that played at EPIC (Edora Pool and Ice Center) on June 9 at 7:15 PM. Mrs. Margaret Ruth (Sterkel) Ibsen, 92, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010. Born in Berthoud, Colorado on February 27, 1918, she was a self-taught seamstress. In her later years, she enjoyed working as a nanny. Upon the death of a younger sister, she became guardian of two nephews and a niece. New Principal at Conrad Ball Middle School
Scott Elias, assistant principal at Loveland High School, has been named interim principal at Conrad Ball Middle School. He is filling in for Sheila Pottorff, who will be interim director of Secondary Education for the 2010-2011 school year. Elias came to Thompson School District and LHS in 2007. Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who committed an armed robbery of the Conoco Gas Station at the intersection of I-25 and E. Berthoud board extends medical marijuana moritorium
Berthoud Board of Trustees had a full agenda for the June 15 meeting. Medical marijuana was eleventh on the agenda, but two business asked to speak during the Citizen Participation. Both wanted to be exempted from the moratorium and be allowed to open for business before July 1. Both had obtained a town sales tax license before the moratorium went into effect. Meningitis outbreak in Larimer County
The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment is investigating several cases of meningococcal disease that have occurred over the past two weeks in Fort Collins, resulting in one death. Three cases have been confirmed as invasive meningococcal infections. Test results are still pending on one case with symptoms of bacterial meningitis.
