Police Beat: Aug. 13, 2009
Tuesday, Aug. 4 Police found a five-gallon propane tank in the 300 block of Victoria Avenue. The bottle was logged into the found property and is stored in the city garage. Berthoud Police received a call from the Larimer County Sheriff’s office about two males on the Burlington Northern train. The train stopped in Berthoud and the police removed the two from the train. A water department employee notified police that longhorn cattle were on the roadway at County Road 17 at County Road 10E. ... Full Story

Monday, Aug. 3 BFPD responded to an accident near Hwy 287 and Highway 60 involving three vehicles. Two vehicles sustained heavy damage and extrication was needed. Three patients were transported. Tuesday, Aug. 4 BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 25 at mile marker 250. There was minor damage and no one was injured. New Tennis Courts a Go After School Board Approval
By Michael Hicks Berthoud Recorder Girls tennis season is still six months away, but Berthoud just scored its first, and maybe biggest, victory yet. The Thompson R2-J School Board voted Aug. 5 for the construction of new tennis courts — six in all — to be placed adjacent to the recently added-on auxiliary gym and classrooms. Perky Pansies for the Garden
By Margaret Wolf CSU Extension Master Gardener Pansies are often planted in late fall and early spring. Planting pansies in the fall helps them develop vigorous root systems during the winter, producing more blooms in spring. Pansies are winter hardy in zones 4-8. If there is a severe freeze, there is a risk of losing the plants, but they can survive light freezes and short periods of snow cover. A Sister's Promise: Berthoud Woman Seeks Answer
By Shari Phiel Berthoud Recorder On Monday, July 7, 2008, longtime Berthoud resident Corby Haworth was transported by ambulance to Longmont United Hospital’s emergency room after complaining of a severe headache and difficulty breathing. By the time the ambulance reached the hospital, Haworth was already unconscious. Shortly after her arrival, the 52-year-old Haworth died as the result of what would later be determined as subdural and subarrachnoid hemmorhages. (more…)
Tinney Fundraiser Aug. 15
Saturday, Aug. 15 — Fundraiser for Ian Tinney: Street Dance, 4 to 8 p.m. A street dance will be held on Massachusetts Avenue, between Third and Fourth streets in an ongoing effort to help and support the Ian Tinney Family. Tinney, a long-time Berthoud businessman, suffered a stroke in early May. He is currently rehabilitating at the Berthoud Living Center.
