Tuesday, April 21 A woman reported a suspicious car near Town Park. The officer found a man who was early for an appointment and had stopped to talk on his cell phone. A vehicle ran into a pole at the A&W Restaurant. The only damage was to the car so the driver opted not to file a report. Wednesday, April 22 A call about a yellow Labrador retriever in the yard near Third Street and Mountain Avenue was cancelled when the owner picked up the dog two minutes later. Police Beat: April 23, 2009

Tuesday, April 14 The Boulder County Sheriff’s department found some property near Ish Reservoir that may be connected to the burglary at the Habitat Thrift Store. Lots of people and loud music on S. Third Street at 9 p.m. caused a nearby resident to complain to the police that the party had just started and may get out of hand. Tuesday, April 7 A man came into the police department to report his unit at Berthoud Self Storage had been broken into. He produced the loop part of his lock which had been cut off. Eight to 10 packing blankets were taken from the site. There are no suspects at this time. The parents of a Berthoud Elementary School student reported that an unknown male tried to talk their son into getting in to his car. The boy refused the offer. Tuesday, March 31 A vehicle in the 700 block of Massachusetts Avenue was marked as abandoned. Police gave a verbal warning to some juveniles who were using the tennis net at Fickel Park as a trampoline. Wednesday, April 1 A resident of south Ninth Street reported that a thirty-something, bearded male wearing dirty jeans had approached his daughter on the previous day. Tuesday, March 24 An inoperative gas powered go-cart was stolen from an alley garage in the 100 block of Welch Ave. A pedestrian walking along Bunyan Ave. called 911 when he was followed by a dog resembling a pit bull. The caller reported the dog was not mean, and when the animal’s owner showed up the walker cancelled the call. A girl called in from Fickle Park to report that in a group of six juvenile males in the park, one of the boys “flashed” them and one offered marijuana. The boys ... Full Story

Tuesday, March 17 A resident of the 300 block of Turner Ave. reported that a neighbor came to his house and told him that his dog had attacked her dog two days before. He went on to say that she “threatened the lives of his dogs.” A passerby found a credit card in the hedgerow by the old rose farm and turned it over to the police. Police Beat for 03-12-09 Tuesday, Mar. 3 Police responded to a 7 a.m. call that the school zone warning light in front of Hays Market was facing north instead of west. The caller thought it might be due to wind or vandals. The police decided it was the result of the wind and repositioned the light. A resident on Victoria St. called to complain about a Hubbell St. dog that keeps coming to his yard and “using the restroom.” This was not the first complaint, but the dog was back home by the ... Tuesday, Feb. 24 An 18-year-old Berthoud High School student was charged with assault after punching a 16-year-old boy in the face while they were in the school parking lot. Angry because of the theft of his radar detector, the older boy had been told that it had been taken by the younger boy and accosted him in the parking lot, allegedly knocking him the ground and punching him in the face. Tuesday, Feb. 17 It pays to report incidents to the police. While speaking with a Berthoud woman about a case, she mentioned that her grandson’s bicycle had been stolen a few weeks before. The officer recognized it as one in the department’s abandoned property and boy and bicycle were reunited. A loud hissing noise coming from the area of High Country Proco at 10 a.m. was identified as a propane tank being blown out. Police found a bicycle in the area of First St. and Indiana ... Police Beat: Feb. 19, 2009

Thursday, Feb. 12 Police responded to the area of Sixth St. Court and Bunyan Ave. to check on the welfare of a tan Corgie chained up at a residence. The caller said the dog is always chained up at this location and has no shelter or way to get out of the snow. The officer determined that the chain was long enough to allow the animal to get out of the snow and that it was able to go inside at night.
