A photo review of the fun and games at Ivy Stockwell Elementary School this Staturday. There was plenty of food, games galore and it looked as though everyone was having a good time.
The Ivy Stockwell Second Grade Showcase performance on Thursday night was Something’s Musical, with singers, dancers and instruments directed by Mr. Bill Hordinski. While these showcases are a delight to the parents and grandparents, the main idea is to teach the students something valuable. The Music standards include learning to read and notate music, create music and explore culture through music and history. The Public is invited to attend the meeting of the Thompson School District Accountability Advisory Committee (DAAC) at 6 p.m. March 9 at the Administration Building (Classroom 128), 800 South Taft Avenue, Loveland. The DAAC monitors school effectiveness plans and the district's accountability process.
The Berthoud After Prom event committee is in need of donations. After prom is open to all juniors and seniors, not just those attending prom. The event provides a fun, safe, substance-free environment for juniors, seniors and their dates. The After Prom event will be held at 11:00 p.m. from Saturday, April 24 until 3:30 a.m. Sunday, April 25. Donations pay for the activities, entertainment, food, and raffle prizes. Berthoud High School, Thompson School District’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) showcase school, played host to the 2010 Colorado VEX Championship. This robotics championship is an annual event brining the best in robotics competitors from middle schools and high schools around the state. The Thompson Board of Education began the meeting listening to a presentation by the members of the Coyote Ridge Elementary School Lego robotics team. These elementary students lost one of there fellow students in 2008 when a driver talking on her cell phone struck and killed Erica Forney as she was riding her bicycle home from school. Since that time the practice of talking and texting on cell phones has become known as “Distracted Driving” and these kids want to do something about it. ... Full Story

Members of the 993rd Medical Detachment Veterinary Services came to Garfield Elementary School on Friday. The visit was the work of SPC Marissa Herbert, a member of the Army Reserve Unit and the mother of Garfield fourth grader Zalynn. Herbert said most of these kids have had no contact with people in the military and had many misconceptions. Herbert, who does a great deal of volunteer work at the school, cited the response of one of the boys when he found out she was in the Army Reserve. ... Full Story

The Fourth Annual Show Choir Showcase was indeed a showcase of talent and judging by the number of people attending, a great success. There was no shortage of Choirs and the audience that packed Berthoud High School Commons was treated to over an hour and a half of musical entertainment. The show started off with the Kids in Red, elementary students who attend a two-day workshop with members of the Bridge-Between Show Choir.
