Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor, I'm writing to support Larimer County Commissioner Tom Donnelly in his campaign for re-election. Donnelly has done a great job, providing great constituent services for the citizens. He goes out of his way to listen to the needs of the people. He holds monthly citizens meetings in multiple locations in his district, plus he goes to lots of public meetings. He's also provided great leadership with balancing the county budget. I would definitely recommend Tom Donnelly for ... Full Story
Romney: another big lie
4 Pinocchios for a truncated, 14-year-old Obama clip Just as we have not been very impressed about many of the Obama campaign’s claims about Mitt Romney’s business career many years ago, we were not initially that impressed with the Romney campaign’s effort to dredge up a 14-year-old quote to demonstrate that President Obama wants to “redistribute wealth.” The clip was so old — he was just a state senator — and the context was rather ... Right Wing trolls bash pizza parlor
Right Wing Trolls Trash A Small Business — For Welcoming Obama September 11th, 2012 10:40 pm Henry Decker Scott Van Duzer, the Florida restauranteur who lifted President Obama off the ground in a bear hug when Obama visited his pizzeria on Sunday, thought that he was just creating a lighthearted photo-op. Unfortunately, Van Duzer underestimated how rabidly the right-wing fringe hates the president. Republicans have organized a boycott of Big Apple Pizza because Van Duzer had ... Full Story

Romney’s theory of the “taker class”
Romney’s theory of the “taker class,” and why it matters Posted by Ezra Kline There will be plenty said about the politics of Romney’s remarks. But I want to take a moment and talk about the larger argument behind them, because this vision of a society divided between “makers” and “takers” is core to the Republican nominee’s policy agenda. In his comments, Romney says that “these are people who pay no income tax,” but they are people “who are dependent upon government, ... Full Story
The KKK and the Tea Party
The following article appeared in the September 17 edition of the Fort Collins Coloradoen. It is a short history of the Ku Klux Klan in Colorado and I was struck by the similarities with the present day Tea Party. You could easily substitute "Tea Party" for "KKK" through out the article and not be far off including the jingoistic patriotism and the anti-minority or anti-other religion stance. KKK had strong presence in Colorado By Barbara Fleming The Ku Klux Klan in Colorado? Hard to ... Full Story
Revolt of the Rich
Our financial elites are the new secessionists. By Mike Lofgren It was 1993, during congressional debate over the North American Free Trade Agreement. I was having lunch with a staffer for one of the rare Republican congressmen who opposed the policy of so-called free trade. To this day, I remember something my colleague said: “The rich elites of this country have far more in common with their counterparts in London, Paris, and Tokyo than with their fellow American citizens.” That was ... Obama’s Way
Michael Lewis's article in Vanity Fair is a must read. Lewis was given unprecedented to the president and presents a picture not often seen of a sitting president. From his basketball games to deciding to intervene in Libya, Lewis gives insight into the mind of our president. This is an incredible article giving a glimpse of what it takes to be president and the humbleness and humanity of the man who now occupies this office.. Obama's Way By Michael ... Full Story
Bush failure allowed 9/11 attack
Why Bush, Cheney and the Neocons Failed to Protect America from al-Qaeda's Vicious Attacks By Walter Uhler Urgency about regime change in Iraq, rather than urgency about intelligence indicating an imminent al-Qaeda attack explains the failure of Bush, Cheney and the neocons to adequately prepare for 9/11. NYT: White House Didn't Stop 9/11 Because It Thought "Bin Laden Was Merely Pretending To Be Planning An Attack" By Washington's ... Full Story
Confessions of a Former Republican
Joining the Reality-Based Community Or How I Learned to Stop Loving the Bombs and Start Worrying By Jeremiah Goulka I used to be a serious Republican, moderate and business-oriented, who planned for a public-service career in Republican politics. But I am a Republican no longer. There’s an old joke we Republicans used to tell that goes something like this: “If you’re young and not a Democrat, you’re heartless. If you grow up and you’re not a ... Full Story
