By Michael Hicks Special to the Recorder Online DENVER -- Maybe it wasn’t the medal that they wanted, but for Robbie Workman, Alex Sadlo, Casey Couch and J.T. Pickert it’s a building block for next season. The four Berthoud underclassmen placed in the top six of their respective weight classes -- Sadlo and Couch finished fifth while Workman and Pickert took sixth  -- Saturday in the 4A state wrestling championships at the Pepsi Center. High School winter sports regular season is over and we are entering the post season competitions. Berthoud boys lose to Northridge 73 – 80

The Spartans made a valiant effort and kept the final score close. The Berthoud boys scored 46 of their points in the second half while holding Northridge to 37. Berthoud matched the Grizzlies point for point in the first quarter but fell behind in the second period and the comeback was not quite enough. The boys will play Silver Creek on Thursday at Berthoud High School

Lady Spartans over Northridge 63 – 44

Playoff game Thursday at Berthoud High School The Spartans started off the evening with a strong performance. Northridge controlled the tip-off but was unable to score. Berthoud also had trouble finding the basket for the first two minutes but led 7 – 0 with four minutes remaining in the first quarter. Each team scored 8 points in the final four minutes of the quarter. Berthoud had a 24 point second quarter in spite of giving the ball up on several turnovers and ... Full Story

Basketball playoffs at Berthoud

This note form Athletic Director, Mark Avery "As it looks right now, I believe that both the BHS boys and girls basketball teams will be hosting a game on Thursday, February 11th in the first round of the Northern Conference Basketball Tournament.  It is conceivable that we will also play one or more games on Saturday as well, but I have not run all of the scenarios yet.  Game times will be 5:30pm for girls and 7:00pm for boys. Spartan Wrestlers get ready for regionals

By Denise Schump The Spartan grapplers hit the road on Thursday to battle the Sterling Tigers in the last regional dual meet of the season. With Sterling’s three open weights and Berthoud’s eight state ranked wrestlers, the Tigers did not have much of a chance. The most exciting and well fought match of the night came from freshman, Austin Bending (103) who battled back and forth with Rock Tidwell from Sterling, only to come up short by one point in the last few seconds of the match ... Berthoud Boys Basketball win in overtime at Niwot

The Spartans found themselves in overtime again for the second time in three games and the final score was almost identical to the Sterling score. Berthoud should have had an easier time of it with the 7 - 10 Cougars. High scorers in the game were Shane Hart -23, Zach Ruebesam - 15 and Joel Maly with 14. Hart also led in rebounds with 7.
