The Spartans and the Fort Morgan Mustangs have similar records this year but you would not have know that from the first half of tonight’s game. The Spartans did not give the few Mustang fans that made the trip much to cheer about. Spartan wrestlers get high marks at JFK Tournament

By Denise Schump The Berthoud Spartans took second place in the 25th annual JFK wrestling tournament in Denver on Saturday. Fifteen 4A and 5A teams took part in the competition with Berthoud coming out just 10 points behind their league rival, the Frederick Warriors. Eight Berthoud grapplers placed in the meet with three Spartans, Robbie Workman (130), Corey Ellis (160), and Casey Couch (189), taking home championship medals. The Lady Spartans are now 9-5  after defeating the 3-11 Skyline Falcons 46-37. Their next game is at Fort Morgan where the lowly ranked Mustangs have won only a single game all year. Joel Maly led the Spartan attack with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Mark Mathiesen was 4 for 4 from outside the circle and contributed 14 points. Zach Ruebesam made his 6 points with a three-pointer and three free throws. Greg Hutchins added 4 points and Jeff Carlson 3 as the Spartans defeat the Falcons 53 to 34. By Denise Schump The score board may have showed 42 points for the Roosevelt Roughriders and 21 for the Spartans after the duel meet on Thursday night in Johnstown, but spectators on both sides of the stands were on the edges of their seats throughout the meet. Turner Middle School 8th Grade Varsity over Walt Clark

The Dragons jumped out to an 8 to 2 lead in the first quarter and held a comfortable lead at the half. The Walt Clark girls were not to be denied and came out running in the third period and took a 17 to 16 lead at the end of the third. The lead held until Sara Parker's free throw put the Turner girls ahead 19 to 17 with 5:14 remaining in the game.
