Exchange Student host family thanks Berthoud Community
To the Editor As the host parents of the exchange student who was recently in the news, we would like to offer our sincere gratitude to the community of Berthoud for their tremendous kindness and support. Our exchange daughter had been the victim of a very violent attack in Germany several years ago that was never reported. She re-enacted that crime here in Berthoud as a cry for help. While we all wish that she had found another way to tell us what she ... Full Story
Romney, computers and pornography
Opinion by David Pakman During Mitt Romney’s campaign for the 2008 Republican Presidential nomination, he made an interesting comment about pornography. The comment came in Ottumwa, Iowa at the Hotel Ottumwa, where Romney said “I want to make sure every new computer sold in this country after I’m President has installed on it a filter to block all pornography.” This comment is fascinating for a number of reasons, and ... Little Thompson Water candidate
To the Editor: I am a candidate from South Loveland for the Little Thompson Water District board to serve as a voice for customers, including seniors, on future water policies and rate-setting including the issue of water for fracking purposes if it comes at the expense of other customers or leads to a rise in rates. Currently I am on the Advisory Board of the Larimer County Office on Aging and “graduated” from Larimer County 101 in 2011, a class run by the county to encourage more ... Full Story
Kevin Lundberg vs the IRS
Editor’ Note: Senator Lundberg is trying to make “political hay” on a non-issue. It is true that approximately 400,000 non-profits lost their status when they did not heed the notices about the need to start submitting annual reports to the IRS. However, as a board member a local non-profit, I know that our treasurer received the notice and found it easy to comply and there was no problem. I continued making the reports after she retired. Another organization, of which I am a ... Full Story

Romney, a man of falsehoods
OPINIONS Mitt Romney, a man of falsehoods By Richard Cohen, Published: April 16 Among the attributes I most envy in a public man (or woman) is the ability to lie. If that ability is coupled with no sense of humor, you have the sort of man who can be a successful football coach, a CEO or, when you come right down to it, a presidential candidate. Such a man is Mitt Romney. Time and time again, Romney has been called a liar during ... Full Story
Republican Party Communists
What Allen West Does Not Know About Communists and Congress John Nichols on April 13, 2012 - 8:17 AM ET Florida Congressman Allen West was wrong when he suggested that there were dozens of communists in the current Congress. Misled by crank websites, the out-there Republican from Florida said Tuesday, “I believe there’s about 78 to 81 members of the Democrat Party that are members of the Communist Party… They actually don’t hide it. It’s called the ... Full Story

Why do Conservatives Hate Public Transit
4 Reasons Conservatives Hate Public Transit By Jason Mark Once upon a time — in a political environment that seems otherwordly compared to what we have in the United States today — the federal transportation bill was a bi-partisan endeavor. Now things are different. Congress went into spring recess last week and once again left hanging a reauthorization of the transportation bill, which expired two and a half years ago. Congress was just barely able to approve a temporary, 90-day ... Full Story
