CDOT Looking for a Few Good Comments

By Shari Phiel
Berthoud Recorder

The Colorado Department of Transportation is looking for comments from the public on the future of the Interstate 25 travel corridor. The department opened a 60-day public comment window earlier this month and will be accepting comments through Dec. 30.

There are currently two options being considered as the best transportation solutions and the department would like to narrow that to one. Once a final option has been selected, CDOT will begin working an environment impact statement for the chosen option.

The first option, referred to as Package A, includes plans for widening I-25 to eight lanes around the Boulder exit and would then narrow to six lanes. The interstate would then stay at six lanes up to Fort Collins.

Package A also links commuter rail and bus lines between Longmont and Fort Collins to the FasTracks project. FasTracks is the multi-billion dollar commuter rail project planned between Denver and Boulder and Longmont approved by voters in 2004.

East of I-25, package A includes commuter bus service between Denver and Greeley and would run along U.S. Highway 85.

The other option being considered, labeled Package B, focuses solely on developments to I-25. The plan calls for the addition of a rapid-transit bus route between Denver and Fort Collins.

In addition, a separate lane for express bus routes would be created with routes to Greeley, Fort Collins and all the way out to Denver International Airport. Feeder bus routes would also be added to transport riders between Boulder, Longmont, Loveland and Berthoud.

Package B also calls for express toll lanes to be added on I-25 to facilitate faster drivers between Denver and Fort Collins.

To view plan details, and to provide comments to CDOT, members of the public to come view the documents in person or download them online. The documents can be viewed at:
