(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman, R-CO, released the following statement today announcing his support of House Resolution 1148, the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act. The bill, sponsored by Democratic Reps. Tim Walz (MN) and Louise Slaughter (NY), would prohibit members of Congress and federal employees from trading stocks based on non-public information obtained on the job.
“I am co-sponsoring the STOCK Act because I strongly believe it’s important that members of Congress and their staff are subject to the same standards, under the law that all Americans are held to. It’s not right for federal lawmakers to use their positions to personally profit from information not available to the general public.”
