Congress repeals the Bill of Rights

Editorial Opinion

Are you a terrorist? The answer might surprise you. Why is this important? The U.S. Senate recently passed the Defense Authorization Bill with a little discussed amendment that effectively destroys the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth amendments, effectively gutting the Bill of Rights. See “Constitution of the United States, Bill of Rights.”This was all done in the name of combating terrorists, but applies to everyone, to anyone whom the “government” decides is a terrorist. Could that be you?

What are the characteristics that might make the authorities deem a citizen a terrorist threat. Senator Rand Paul, R-KY, revealed the government’s newest definitions during the brief debate on the subject. See the video here, “Govt Says Hunters, Extreme Couponers are Potential Terrorists?

According to “The Top Five Terrorist Signs,”  Senator Paul’s actions led to the removal of specifically stating these signs in the amendment, but we now know what guidelines the government is using. Missing fingers, more than 7 days supply of food, having ammunition, which means of course, that you have a gun. Have you ever gone to a meeting that might be deemed a terrorist organization or have you ever associated with someone who has. How would you even know the answer to the latter question. Perhaps someone doesn’t like you and reports you as a suspect. You could be picked up and imprisoned without trial and without notice. Think Muammar Gaddafi style of government.

Under these guidelines the members of the National Rifle Association (NRA) could all be considered terrorists. The members of that organization defend their right to bear arms and insist it is a necessity to defend the nation. Yet the only mention online about a position on laws is “NRA Won’t Back Down from Supporting Law that Increases Military Suicides.”  Nothing about the current attack on civil liberties.

For those who think their guns will protect them from the government, one only need to look at what happened to Jose Guerena Ortiz, a two tour former marine who was gunned down by a Tuscon Arizona SWAT Team. Read about his family’s ordeal at “Family of Marine Gunned Down by SWAT Team Still Searches for Answers and Justice.”   Note that police could easily have picked him up at work or while he was driving. No drugs were found and no arrests have been made. This raid exemplifies what the government can do against citizens of this country. If this is what happens when confronted by our militarized police, imagine what little defense a citizen, even with several guns, might mount against a U.S. Army Ranger Squad. Should some future president decide to pick up all known gun owners, it is likely that they would start with the NRA, known gun owners and surely they already have a copy the membership list. Where is the outrage by these staunch defenders of civil liberty.

This is the way it started in Nazi Germany as exemplified by this famous quote by Martin Niemoller

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out —
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out –
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out –
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.

It appears that the great United States of America is now headed down the same road as Nazi Germany and apparently, most of our U.S. Senators are willing to let that happen.

The government will likely start with the Occupy movement as being a threat to the Nazi-Capitalist elite, but they will eventually come for you and of course me.
