Days Inn Drama ends peacefully

A one and one-half hour negotiation with an armed subject barricaded in a room at the Days Inn ended peacefully shortly after noon today.  Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the Days Inn at 3625 East Mulberry Street in Fort Collins at approximately 10:18 this morning on the report of a distraught man with a gun. The 911 call came from a third party who was in contact with the man via phone.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Negotiations team was called in to talk with the man and were successful in talking him in to coming out peacefully.  The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactical Team (SWAT) was deployed as a precaution.  The surrounding rooms at the inn were evacuated as a safety precaution.  The man was alone in the room.  There were no injuries to anyone involved and no shots were fired by anyone.

The 55-year-old transient, who had been staying at the inn, was taken into protective custody and transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.  No criminal charges are anticipated at this time.

Fort Collins Police Services and Poudre Fire Authority assisted with traffic control.  Fort Collins Police Services officers also assisted Sheriff’s deputies.

Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime is asked to call Larimer County Sheriff’s Office at 970-416-1985 or Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868 where you will remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward.
