Deputies Graduate from Adams County POST Academy

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the graduation of  Deputies Mark Hecker, Justin Calkins and Russell Downing  from the Adams County Peace Officer Standards and Training Academy.

Deputy Mark Hecker is a 2011 graduate of Colorado State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology/Criminology.  He was a member of the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post and later served as a Reserve Deputy.  Mark is the son of Loveland Police Chief Luke Hecker and his wife Tami.

Deputy Justin Calkins is a graduate of Front Range Community College with an Associate’s Degree.  He has been a Corrections Deputy at the Larimer County Jail since 2002.

Deputy Russell Downing is a 2006 graduate from Colorado State University with a Bachelor’s Degree.  He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1995 to 2000, and the USMC Reserves from 2000 to 2002.

The Adams County POST Academy is  a 20-week law enforcement training program which includes both classroom and practical instruction in subjects such as criminal law, civil law, evidence collection and investigation, patrol activities, administration of justice, community relations, report writing, first aid/CPR, firearms, arrest control tactics and law enforcement driving.  In addition, participants undergo rigorous physical fitness training.  This program is approved by the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training Board.

After completing a 14-week field training course at the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, the deputies will be assigned to regular patrol positions.
