First Medallion Set in Place

A creative addition to the downtown streetscape project, the first medallion is now in place at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Second Street.
One of 14 medallions to be placed in the bulb-outs along the street, they will be surrounded by colored concrete when work is completed on them. The medallion design created by artist Rafe Ropek was inspired by former Berthoud blacksmith A.G. Bimson whose building is now used as the Little Thompson Valley Museum.
Soon, 25 new light poles with soft lighting, trees and new sidewalks will also grace the downtown area as part of the project.
The Town’s Tree Board is participating in the selection of trees to be placed in the downtown area. Varieties such as linden, which will not grow too large, are among those being considered.
Along with other major infrastructure work on Mountain Avenue undertaken by the Town, irrigation lines also will be installed so the trees can be watered. Lines will also be placed at the base of the light poles to permit possible drip lines which could water hanging baskets.
