Thanksgiving Newsletter… Irene Aguilar

From Where I Sit

Dear Friend,

It’s been a little over a year since I decided to seek a seat in the Colorado State Senate, and just under a year since I was selected to serve the people of Senate District 32. It’s been a whirlwind from start to finish, and as I pause to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family and friends, I can’t help but count my opportunity to immerse myself in public service as one of the great blessings of my life.

I feel awfully lucky, and extremely grateful, that I’ve been able to embark on this journey in a way that has kept me close to the people I love and to the values that have always been at the heart of my family. From my parents who exemplified the work ethic I aspire to as they worked farm and factory jobs to make a better life for their children, to my own son and daughters who astound me every day as they embody the ideals my husband and I care so deeply about, my family has been my inspiration to take responsibility in and ultimately to serve my community.

I’m also thankful that the nature of my work, both as a physician at Denver Health’s Westside Family Health Center and as a member of the Colorado State Senate, has given me the opportunity to feel a sense of an extended family. Thank you for being part of my “village, ” for your support and good wishes, and for your faith and kindness over the past year.

This time of the season is ripe with tradition, and I hope you’ll let me indulge in sharing a few of my own in the course of this newsletter. I hope you and your family have the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful break, and if you are not in sunny Colorado this week, I hope you are somewhere almost as pleasant.

Happy Thanksgiving

Irene Aguilar
