Highlighting the 2009-10 Eagles Slate

The Colorado Eagles released their 2009-10 schedule Thursday. Here is a look at five highlights during the upcoming 64-game slate:

SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS
1. TEXAS TWO-STEP: Colorado opens the season with back-to-back home games against last year’s President’s Cup champion, the Texas Brahmas. Texas beat the Eagles four games to one in last year’s CHL championship series.

2. ON THE ROAD AGAIN, AND AGAIN: The Eagles play seven straight road games right after Thanksgiving and then has nine out of 10 games away from the Budweiser Events Center starting Jan. 23 in Amarillo. That stretch will also take them to Tulsa, Bossier-Shreveport, Missouri, Odessa and Wichita.

3. WHERE’S THE RAGE? One major omission on this year’s schedule is the Rocky Mountain Rage, Colorado’s in-state rival. The Broomfield-located team suspended operation for this upcoming season and won’t be playing. That’s OK, the Rapid City Rush has taken over as Colorado’s primary opponent for the season, meeting the Eagles 10 times, including seven games before the end of the calendar year.

4. BRING ON THE AVS FANS: While the NHL is on hiatus from Feb. 15-28 for the Winter Olympics, the Colorado Eagles will play four straight home games — two each against Mississippi (last year’s Northern Conference finalist opponent) and Arizona (the 2008 President’s Cup champions).

5. DESERT HEAT: Colorado concludes the regular season with three straight games in mid-March at Arizona. It will be the fifth time this season that the Eagles will have played the same team in three straight games, but the only time that all three games will be played at the same location.
