Larimer County Hosts Farm Transition Workshop

Larimer County Hosts Farm Transition Workshop

March 24 at Poudre Valley REA Headquarters

Larimer County Farmers Union and Poudre Valley Cooperative Association will be co-sponsoring a forum Thursday, March 24, 2011, entitled; “Steps For Successful Farm Transition” – An Educational Program on Estate Planning.

The program will be held in the conference room at the Poudre Valley REA (7649 REA Parkway, Fort Collins), beginning at 7:00 pm.

The program will include presentations by a team of estate planning experts, with Gary Baum, FUSA manager for life and health insurance, moderating.

Robert J. Penny, an experienced lecturer on estate planning and lawyer with Wick & Trautwein, will outline the critical steps that farmers, ranchers and small business owners need to take in succession planning. He will cover the importance of involving the entire family, the steps for financial management, and how to reduce estate taxes and income/capital gains taxes.

Bud Frei, Farmers Union Insurance agent for Greeley and northeast Colorado, will review insurance products that can help families manage the transition of the farm, ranch or family business to the next generation.

Farmers Union and the Poudre Valley Co-op want to encourage farm, ranch and family business owners to understand how to successfully transition their farm, ranch or small business to the next generation and how to develop their personal estate planning team. Successful farm and business transitions help us keep agriculture and family-owned business a viable part of Larimer County communities.

Following the presentation there will be time for participants to ask questions and discuss generational transition with the team.
