Morrison Trail at the Devil’s Backbone Open Space opens to public

The Morrison Trail, the newest trail at the Crowder Area of the Devil’s Backbone Open Space, is now open to the public.

This 1 ¼-mile round-trip natural surface trail provides access for hikers and wheelchair users (although an assistant is recommended) at the south end of the existing Devil’s Backbone Open Space Trailhead.

The trail was constructed in Spring 2010, by the Larimer County trail staff on an 11.8-acre parcel donated by the Crowder Family in memory of their son Russell. Educational signs are being developed and will be installed later this year, featuring the geology of this area.

A grand opening celebration for the public is anticipated to occur July 17 – more details will be available closer to the date.

To access the Devil’s Backbone Open Space: From Loveland, head west on Hwy 34 approximately 2.5 miles west of the intersection of Wilson and Hwy 34. Turn north on Hidden Valley Drive and follow the signs to the trailhead.
