Drivers and businesses along Mountain Avenue experienced a little bit of déjà vu earlier this week when a stretch of the Town’s main thoroughfare between Sixth and Seventh streets was closed off for construction work. With Phase I of the Mountain Avenue project completed in early January and Phase II scheduled to begin in March, the only work left to be completed was the installation of new sidewalks and streetlights – neither of which would require road closures.
According to Public Works Director Tony Huerta, the most recent bit of work was a minor repair left over from Phase I. “Towards the end of the project, we experienced a water line leak in that segment between Sixth and Seventh (streets) by the park,” said Huerta.
At the time, the Town decided to have Phase I contractor Northern Colorado Constructors, repair the leak. “We asked them to expose it (the water line leak) and repair it, and they just did not patch it back.”
Crews have completed the patch and no further road closures are anticipated. Crews in place are now working on clean-up from the Phase I project and the placement of the new sidewalks.
