[1]Harry Bernhardt, 90, of Berthoud, died September 19, 2010 at Longmont United Hospital.

He was born July 4, 1920 in Loveland to John and Ann Marie (Bath) Bernhardt. He was raised in Loveland and attended Loveland schools.

Harry married Helen “Irene” Hopp on December 2, 1938 in Brighton.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army in1945 and 1946. Harry was stationed in the Philippines in the Pacific Theater. Following his discharge, Harry and Irene moved to the Longmont area from Loveland in 1952.

Harry was a farmer in Loveland and a welder. He retired from Eversman Manufacturing in 1982.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Longmont and a charter member of the Loveland Moose Lodge. Harry was an avid reader who enjoying working in his shop and on his John Deere tractor. He also enjoyed his animals.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; his wife, Helen “Irene” Berhardt, on March 14, 1997 and his son-in-law, Duane Young on January 22, 2000.

He is survived by three sons, Harry H. Bernhardt (Leota) of Berthoud, Norman Bernhardt of Ft. Collins and Harvey Bernhardt of Gilbert, Arizona; one daughter, Rosalie Young of Longmont; eight grandchildren, Nikki Lewis, Kimberly Ann Pietraseso, Kelly McGinty (Paul), Stephanie Bernhardt, Karen Strode (Andre), Autumn Bernhardt, Samantha Jean Bernhardt and Jacquelyn Shea Davis (Nick); eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and the Family Angel, Oleta Reed.

Visitation will be held at 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1000 15th Ave. in Longmont. Interment at Foothills Gardens of Memory. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice and mailed to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
