Obituary: Mariella Marsh


Mariella Marsh: 1930 – 2010




Mariella Marsh, formerly of Longmont, died July 8, 2010 at the Berthoud Living Center.  She was 80-years-old.

Mariella was born on March 22, 1930 in Prague, Oklahoma to Orlie Joe and Letha (Daniel) McGuire.  She married Walter P. “Bud” Marsh on August 7, 1952 in Prague, Oklahoma.  Mariella received her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Education Specialist Degrees and was a teacher and counselor.  She taught home economics and directed drama programs in Carlsbad, New Mexico before moving to Longmont in 1968.  Mariella was a Counselor at Longmont Jr. High School and had served as a guide for young people for 30 years before she retired in 1992.  Mrs. Marsh loved the students she worked with and had the ability to discover the unique qualities that lay within the students she worked with.

Besides education, Mariella enjoyed music and directed musical activities and sang with Sweet Adeline’s and Barbershop groups. She also was a great cook, enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband in their motor home, and taking trips to Black Hawk to try her luck.  Mariella also enjoyed creating artwork out of dried wildflowers that she would collect on trips to the mountains.  Besides floral portraits, she also created sweatshirts with floral designs that were given as gifts.

Her husband preceded Mrs. Marsh in death.  She is survived by two children:  Susan D. Hemphill of Berthoud and Steven W. Marsh and his wife Mary of Houston, Texas; a brother Joseph Charles McGuire; three grandchildren:  Megan Marsh, Jeff Marsh, and Steve Jacobsen; and two great grandsons:  Sam and Ben Jacobsen.

A memorial service to celebrate Mariella’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at 5:30 p.m. at Howe Mortuary.  Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services.
