1930 – 2012

Business owner, civic leader, loving husband, and great dad, Marvin passed away on Memorial Day, May 28, 2012 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He died in his sleep with members of his family present. Marvin embraced life. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He loved to travel. Ever curious he was an insatiable reader. Marvin was born September 9, 1930 to Erle and Bonita (Sweany) Gause and raised in Rocky Ford, Colorado. After graduating from Rocky Ford High School, Marvin served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Ronquil SS-396. Following his military service Marvin attended Pueblo Junior College before graduating from the University of Colorado in 1956 with a Business Degree.

Marvin stayed in Boulder after graduation, and began his working career as the finance director for the City of Boulder where during his tenure he was instrumental in the sale of bonds to pay for the Betasso Water Treatment plant built by the city in 1963. He then worked in a similar position for the City of Eugene, Oregon. After three years in Oregon he returned to Boulder County beginning a new career spanning 30 years as a General Contractor and Realtor. Marvin was a member of LifeBridge Christian Church, Boulder Jaycees and the Berthoud Lions Club. As a member of the Lions, he was Past Northeast District Governor and was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship. Marvin enjoyed giving back to the community through the organizations of which he was a member.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Marvin married Louwin Hitchcock from Pueblo, Colorado in 1952, and they had three children, they later divorced. He married Dorothy Deterding on June 10, 1995 in Boulder. Marvin and Dorothy moved to Longmont in 1996.

Marvin is survived by: his wife Dorothy, brother Donald Gause (Carol) of Rocky Ford, son Drew Gause (Tammy) of Castle Pines, Colorado, daughters Carol Lea Wood (Philip) of Littleton, Colorado, Dr. Cynthia Gause-Vega (Juan) of Prague, Czech Republic, step-daughter Ellen (Kansas), step-son Eric (Florida); eight grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Memorial service and life celebration will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday June 2, 2012 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont, with Flag presentation and Military Honors by US Navy.
