Obituary: Mary Ruth Lara

Mary Ruth Lara 

(May 15, 1936 – March 1, 2017)

Mary Ruth Lara, 80, wife of Santiago Lara was born May 15, 1936 in Denver Colorado suddenly passed of a massive stroke on March 1, 2017 with her family by her side. Ruth was the eldest of ten children and born to Pete and Phyllis (Ornelas) Velasquez. Ruth married Santiago C. Lara on February 21, 1963 and had five children, Christine, Jamie, Rita, Santiago Jr. and Lisa.

Ruth grew up in the Berthoud, Loveland area. She graduated from Berthoud High School in 1955 and worked for Control Castings and retired from Hewlett Packard after 20 years.

Ruth loved her grandkids and great grandkids more than she loved anything else in life. She never missed any of their events and never hesitated to help them when they needed her. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling down to Puerto Penasco, Mexico. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She is survived by her husband Santiago, daughters, Christine (Sidney) Kramer of Loveland,  Jamie Lara (Rod) of Sahuarita, Arizona, Rita Lara (Dan) of Loveland, son, Santiago Lara Jr. of Fort Collins, and daughter, Lisa (Gary) Brown of Loveland. Six grand-children, Zachary, Dustin, Marcus (Tessa), Travis, Trent and Allison. Three step grand-children, Ross, Erin and Erica. Sisters, Judy (Rory) Buxmann of Loveland, Nadine Velasquez (Steve) of Everett, Washington, Mary Lou (Jr.) Adame of Las Vegas, New Mexico. Brothers Johnnie Velasquez of Loveland, Tim (Shirley) Velasquez of Loveland. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. Grand dogs, Paula, Ralphie, Tommy and Kiya.

She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Tony, Joe Ben and Jeff. Sister Betty, and nephew Eric.

Memorial service, Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home.
