Obituary: Melva Jean Webb

Funeral FlowersMelva Jean Webb of Berthoud, Colorado passed away August 28, 2014 at North Shore Care Center. She was 86 years old. Jean was born in Lake City, Arkansas to John and Clara (Diggs) Carter. She graduated from Greene County High School in Paragould, Arkansas in 1947 and attended business college in Memphis, Tennessee for one year. On April 22, 1953 she married a handsome sailor, Donald D. Webb from Bartley, Nebraska and they lived most of their 61 years of married life in Colorado.

Jean worked for Sears for 19 years, first in Memphis then in Longmont, until her retirement in 1987. She was very active in her church, the First United Methodist Church in Longmont. She particularly enjoyed visiting the sick and elderly and delivering the altar flowers to church members in the hospital and nursing homes. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Stephens Friends and a former member of the ABWA.

She will be remembered by everyone who knew her for her kindness and generosity to others. Jean was preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers Bill and Devaughn Carter and an infant brother. She is survived by her devoted husband, Donald and loving children, Ron Webb (Tonia) of Loveland and Karen Ankrum-Cole (Mike) of Fort Collins. She is also survived by four grandsons, Christopher, Jacob and Matthew Webb and John Ankrum, three great-grandchildren, Madison, Lillie and Dakota Webb and sisters Linda Dacus of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Retha Goodson of Longmont.

A celebration of her life will be held at First United Methodist Church in Longmont (350 11th Avenue) on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 10:30 am. Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
