Angry because of the theft of his radar detector, the older boy had been told that it had been taken by the younger boy and accosted him in the parking lot, allegedly knocking him the ground and punching him in the face. The appearance of the injuries was severe enough that the paramedics advised his mother to take him to the doctor.

The car sped away and the officer observed beer being thrown out of the vehicle. The officer lost track of the vehicle, but found it again and attempted to make a stop but the vehicle sped away at speeds up to 100 mph.
