Premier Gymnasts Take 20th at State Meet

Premier gymnasts take 20th at state meet
Logan English of Loveland came in eighth with a score of 36.60 in the Senior A Division at the Level 5 Colorado State Gymnastics Championship at Berthoud High School on Dec. 6 and 7.

Premier Gymnastics of the Rockies, based out of Loveland, took 20th overall.

In individual events, Berthoud’s Emma Vogel came in sixth on the vault and seventh on the balance beam in the Junior B Division. Logan placed fourth on bars and ninth on the beam in the Senior A class, while Tyler English, also of Loveland, finished second on the vault in the Senior B Division.

 

Arena team kicks off home schedule March 13
FORT COLLINS — The Colorado Ice indoor football team will open the 2009 season with an exhibition game at the Budweiser Events Center on March 13 against a team to be announced.

The Ice’s regular-season kicks off March 28 against the Billings Outlaws, also at the BEC. All of Colorado’s home games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Other home games include the Bloomington Extreme (April 11), Fairbanks Grizzlies (April 18), Omaha Beef (May 2), Fairbanks Grizzlies (May 9), Alaska Wild (June 6) and El Paso Generals (June 13).

 

Ice re-signs Alconcel, trades for cornerback
FORT COLLINS — The Colorado Ice have re-signed all-star offensive lineman Brandon Alconcel and traded for Bloomington Extreme defensive back Courtney Miller. The Ice dealt defensive back Dorsey Golston to Bloomington for the rights to Miller.

Alconcel, a 6-foot-3, 304-pound lineman, played all 14 games for Colorado in 2008, splitting time between center and tackle. He’s a 2007 graduate of Colorado State University.

Miller previously played for the British Columbia Lions, the Grey Cup champions of the Canadian Football League in 2007. In 2006, Miller was a National Indoor Football League all-star with the Billings Outlaws.

 

3-on-3 youth tournament set for Windsor
WINDSOR — The Rocky Mountain Peak Foundation sixth annual youth 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held Dec. 29 and 30 at Windsor High School.

There are four divisions for children in grades 4th through 8th. Boys games will be held on the 29th and girls on 30th from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Cost is $125 per team, which includes a tournament T-shirt and a minimum of three games per team. Admission is $2 for non-players with $1 going toward the Windsor Food Bank.

Berthoud Recreation registering for winter season
Berthoud Recreation is registering for little dribblers — for grades Kindergarten through second grade — and youth basketball — for grades third through fifth.

Registration will be held through Dec. 25. Cost is $45 for residents and $55 for non-residents.

Youth basketball camp set for Jan. 6-8
Berthoud Recreation will be hosting a basketball camp, specializing in ball handling, Jan. 6 through 8 at Berthoud Elementary School.

The camp, which will run from 4-6 p.m. daily, is open to ages 8 through 12. Cost for the camp is $75.

Registration will run through Dec. 25. Space is limited.

Windsor rec league looking for basketball players
Registration is being accepted for boys’ basketball teams participating in the winter league at Windsor Recreation Center.

Players in 5th grade through 8th will play a 12-game league schedule beginning Jan. 11. All games are played at the Windsor Recreation Center.
