Shoot for the Stars at LTO Golf Open

Berthoud Recorder

The Little Thompson Observatory in Berthoud is hosting the LTO Open Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 25 at Twin Peaks Golf Course in Longmont. The format is four-person teams, best ball. The competition starts at 7:30 a.m.

The tournament is a fundraiser to support the final phase of expansion which includes the construction and installation of a second dome on the observatory to house the 24-inch telescope obtained in 2006 from Telescopes in Education. This telescope was built for NASA in the 1960s to survey the moon prior to the Apollo missions.

There is still space available for those who would like to compete and have some fun too. The cost is $85 per person, which includes greens fees, a cart and lunch. A portion of the fee is tax deductible. Single golfers are welcome too; tournament organizers can help place you on a team. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. Complete information is available at or through the LTO information line at (970) 613-7793.

The primary mission of the Little Thompson Observatory is to encourage and support education in math and science for students of all ages, especially  kindergarten through 12th grade. Having opened in June 1999, LTO is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Please come out and support the observatory in its goal to enhance science education and to have two world-class telescopes on the same site.
