Losing my religion for equality

Losing my religion for equality

Jimmy Carter   Women and girls have been discriminated against for too long in a twisted interpretation of the word of God.   I HAVE been a practicing Christian all my life and a deacon and Bible teacher for many years. My faith is a source of strength and comfort to me, as religious beliefs are to hundreds of millions of people around the world. So my decision to sever my ties with the ... Full Story

Republican Hang-up on Sex

Republican Hang-up on Sex

The Republican Hang-Up On Sex And Abortion By Michael Roberts (about the author) I'm not going to repeat the recent stupid and backward pronouncements by zany Republicans on the subject of sex, rape and abortion. Nor am I going to dignify the asinine comments by a set of   white guys in the Republican Party who see rape as "no big deal" and that if it is inevitable then the woman should "lie down and enjoy it." And ... Full Story

RE: “MIT climate scientist receives frenzy of hate mail”

That climatologists are now the target of ideologically driven abuse from climate denialists whose carefully packaged preconceptions are endangered by inconvenient facts is hardly surprising. These attacks are of a piece with similar responses from conservatives in other spheres who feel their world-views are under attack, as in the case of a teenaged girl in Rhode Island who successfully sued to remove a prayer banner from her public school's wall, and who's been receiving threats of ... 10 Shockingly Violent Police Assaults on Occupy Protesters

Intro by Gary Wamsley Unfortunately you will not find "Main Stream Media" covering this side of the story. In this case, AlterNet has put together these 10 events and added some comments and context. The point is that police are not supposed to use more force than necessary. When they do it infuriates crowds and leads to confrontations. The unprovoked attacks in these videos is a chilling statement on the police state that the United States is becoming. The sight in some of these videos of ... Full Story

Answering Joe Dion’s Stomping Stamps

Answering Joe Dion’s Stomping Stamps

EBT means Electronic-Balance-Transfer. While, yes, the EBT card may hold "food stamp" benefits for some, others get cash assistance and can use the card, like a debit card, most anywhere credit cards are accepted. What Mr. Dion saw "Mr. EBT" doing at McDonalds˙ was not purchasing fast food with food stamps but with a cash allowance. Yes the entire welfare system is out of control. But the reader needs to take a look around the whole warren not just the one little rabbit hole he ... Full Story

Stomping the Stamp!

Stomping the Stamp!

No, I'm not talking about postage; I mean food stamps.  This program is out of control.  It's no longer a stopgap to keep people from starving, it's a lifestyle for many who don't need it in the first place.  In fact a rapper calling himself "Mr. EBT" has put out a rap video championing the use of "EBT" card (food stamps) and showing him sliding it through a reader at McDonalds! Last year we took in a woman who was in "crisis" and needed emergency shelter.  Abused, homeless, out of work ... Full Story

What is newsworthy in Loveland, Colorado?

This week a woman was sitting on a bus stop bench in downtown Loveland when a very intoxicated man approached and verbally attacked her with vile, ignorant language. The woman ran into the Alternatives to Violence office on Fourth Street with the man in pursuit, where he threatened and verbally attacked her and the staff. When he was asked to leave, he put his fist through the front office window. He stood threatening and bleeding on Fourth Street. Several Loveland Police  officers came and ... Full Story
