After trailing for much of the game, the Berthoud girls pulled out a win this evening by besting the Sterling Tigers 38 -35. The Tigers controlled the tip and scored quickly. Amy Loberg came right back and tied the score. The next four minutes was all Sterling as they ran their score to 9 while Berthoud was unable to find the hoop. The first half was a defensive battle and low scoring game. Neither team seemed to be able to work the ball into scoring position and the few shots that were attempted missed their mark. By Denise Schump The Berthoud Wrestling team took third place in the 4A region 1, 17 team, regional tournament held on Friday and Saturday at Greeley Central High School. Windsor chalked up the most team points (222.5), with Greeley West (185) coming in second, and Berthoud close behind with 172. The game got off to a slow start as both teams had possession and failed to make a hoop. Wikre got to an open, missed the layup but followed shortly with a 3-pointer to put the Spartans up 3-0, Skyline came right back with two points. This note form Athletic Director, Mark Avery "As it looks right now, I believe that both the BHS boys and girls basketball teams will be hosting a game on Thursday, February 11th in the first round of the Northern Conference Basketball Tournament. It is conceivable that we will also play one or more games on Saturday as well, but I have not run all of the scenarios yet. Game times will be 5:30pm for girls and 7:00pm for boys. The Spartans found themselves in overtime again for the second time in three games and the final score was almost identical to the Sterling score. Berthoud should have had an easier time of it with the 7 - 10 Cougars. High scorers in the game were Shane Hart -23, Zach Ruebesam - 15 and Joel Maly with 14. Hart also led in rebounds with 7. The Girls Varsity Basketball team came from behind with a convincing win over Niwot. The Lady Spartans are now 11 - 7 with one regular season game to go. Like the boys team, the Berthoud girls basketball team did not make much headway against the highly ranked Lady Trojans. The Spartans were held to single digit scoring in each of the first three quarters.
