Longmont overpowers Berthoud 78 – 46

Longmont overpowers Berthoud 78 – 46

Anyone expecting a repeat of the game against Sterling came away disappointed this evening. If 85th ranked Berthoud could beat eighth ranked Sterling, there was certainly hope they could come out on top of number 14 Longmont. That hope did not last long as the Trojans wasted no time spoiling Berthoud’s Senior recognition night. Berthoud controlled the tip-off, but that turned out to be the high spot of the ... Full Story

Boys basketball upends top-ranked Sterling, targets state tourney berth Coming off the biggest win in the Pete Scheck era, the Berthoud High School boys basketball team has plenty left to accomplish. “We’d like to have a home game in the first round of the league tourney and hopefully get ourselves into the state tournament, which we’ve missed the last few years,” third-year coach Scheck said. Just 1-22 in Scheck’s inaugural campaign of 2007-08, the Spartans ... Full Story

Sterling overcame a 7-point deficit in the first half to force the Spartans into overtime, but Berthoud prevailed in the overtime when Greg Hutchins sank a 3 pointer with less than 3 seconds remaining on the clock. This was a great win for the Spartans over a previously undefeated team that was ranked eighth in the state and second in standing in the league. It looks like the Spartans are starting to hit their stride and bodes well for the playoffs. Record 8-7-0 / League ... Full Story

Lady Spartans route Fort Morgan 54 — 18

Of course Berthoud was expected to win this game. The poor Lady Mustangs haven’t won a game since they defeated Frederick on Dec. 11. Their record now stands at 1-14-0 and Berthoud is now 10-5-0. Those girls will probably be glad when the season is over. The stats show that it was all over in the first half with Berthoud leading 26 to 4. The game was close in the first quarter. Low scoring, but close. After that the Mustangs were done for as Berthoud scored more points in the second quarter ... Full Story

Berthoud Boys 65—Fort Morgan 44

Berthoud Boys 65—Fort Morgan 44

The Spartans and the Fort Morgan Mustangs have similar records this year but you would not have know that from the first half of tonight’s game. The Spartans did not give the few Mustang fans that made the trip much to cheer about. Berthoud took the ball from the tip and Greg Hutchins made the first basket and Fort Morgan quickly evened the score. Maly put the Spartans ahead again and the Mustangs came back to tie 4-4, but that was all the scoring they would do for a while. The Berthoud ... Full Story
