State Wrestling Tournament — Day two
By Michael Hicks Special to the Recorder Online DENVER -- It was eerily similar. Earlier Friday, Alex Sadlo, nearly pinned in the first period, overcame a five-point deficit to pin Fort Lupton’s Matt Ornelas to advance to the semifinals of the 4A state wrestling championships at the Pepsi Center. Unfortunately that’s where the similarities ended. Sadlo, needing a late move against Falcon’s Richie Bailey to reach his first state final the Berthoud junior almost had it. Then ... Full Story

All five Berthoud Spartan wrestlers advance on Day 1
By Michael Hicks Special to the Recorder Online DENVER -- Maybe it’s just in a day’s work, but Robbie Workman made his opening match in the 4A state wrestling championships Thursday night at the Pepsi Center look way too easy. So did Alex Sadlo and Marcus Lucero. Shoot, Casey Couch and J.T. Pickert didn’t do too bad, either. All five Berthoud wrestlers that Scott Pickert bought to this year’s championship advanced to today’s quarterfinals. The Spartans finished ... Full Story
Lady Spartans eke out win over Sterling Tigers
After trailing for much of the game, the Berthoud girls pulled out a win this evening by besting the Sterling Tigers 38 -35. The Tigers controlled the tip and scored quickly. Amy Loberg came right back and tied the score. The next four minutes was all Sterling as they ran their score to 9 while Berthoud was unable to find the hoop. The Tiger defense kept Berthoud passing the ball outside the circle and the few shots Berthoud did take bounced off the rim. Amy Ekart made her first basket of ... Full Story
