Earl D. Sterkel of Berthoud went to join the Lord on Tuesday, July 28 at Longmont United Hospital following complication after open-heart surgery. Sterkel was born in Loveland to Jacob and Christina Hohnstien Sterkel on March 8, 1940. He attended Loveland Schools and graduated with the class of 1958 from Loveland High School. Joyce Eleanor Scott, age 83, went to be with the Lord after a long courageous fight with Parkinson’s disease. She was born on Nov. 10, 1926 in Hastings, Mich., to Karl F. and Florence J. Henderson Eckardt of Lake Odessa, Mich. Scott attended school in Woodland, Mich., and graduated from high school in 1944. Beverly Belle Ward, 83, of Berthoud, died on July 15, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center at McKee Medical Center in Loveland. She was born on June 25, 1926, in Mendon, Mo., to Leo E. and Lela Belle (Jackson) Shults. She graduated from high school in Idaho Springs, Colo., in 1944. Furman Donald McClain passed quietly in his sleep on June 2. He was born in the Village of Lombard, Ill., to Furman Delbert McClain and Muriel Hederich. Upon graduating from Union High School in Adams City, Colo., he joined the Navy in 1942. He then served on the Lexington, Enterprise and Ticonderoga ships, was a tail gunner on the SBD aircraft, fought in a commando unit in the South Pacific and saw action from the Admiralty Islands to Japan. Anton (Tony) Tysdal, 93, of Berthoud died early Thursday morning at Windsor Healthcare Center. Tony was born Nov. 5, 1915, in Linn Grove, Iowa to Ole and Marie Tysdal. He served in the Navy during World War II as a gunner’s mate and was at Pearl Harbor shortly after it was attacked by the Japanese. He married Marjorie Kell on March 23, 1944 in Hampton, Iowa. Assisted by Pathways Hospice and her daughter, Dorothy, Lillian R. Meade traveled a gentle passage through death into the presence of her Lord on Monday, May 25. Tony Rodriguez, 51, of Berthoud passed away at McKee Medical Center on May 17.  He was born Jan. 22, 1958, in San Barbara, Mexico to Roman and Micaela (Castro) Rodriguez.
