Obituary: Marion Elizabeth (Brehmer) Andersen

Marion Anderson passed away peacefully on Oct. 28, 2009 at Hospice Care Center of Boulder/Broomfield County in Louisville after a short illness. She was born May 24, 1936 to John and Rosie Brehmer in Bancroft, Neb., the fifth child born to the family, which grew by three more children over the next several years. Anderson was very active in school growing up, being a cheerleader and homecoming queen and graduating from Bancroft High School. She married Robert Eugene Andersen on Nov. 7, 1954. ... Full Story

Police Beat: Oct. 22, 2009

Tuesday, Oct. 13 A Ninth St. resident complained, “Barking dog in the back yard won’t stop.” All was quiet when the officer arrived. Police assisted when an off-duty police officer reported a hit-and-run incident on I-25. Police were unable to locate a careless driver at Berthoud High School. The silver SUV was reported to have been speeding in the parking lot and driving the wrong direction in a one-way zone.  (more…)

Obituary: Kennon Lebsack

Kennon Michael Lebsack, 52, died Sept. 20 at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Tucson, Ariz., after a sudden illness. Lebsack was born March 27, 1957 to Robert and Priscilla Lebsack in Loveland, CO. He attended elementary schools in both Johnstown and Berthoud and graduated from Berthoud High School in 1975. He then attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, graduating in 1980. Obituary: Michael Betcher

Michael W. Betcher, 67, of Berthoud passed away on Aug. 29, 2009 after a short battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 2, 1941 in Riverside, Calif. to Orlan Henry and Rose Adel (nee Wahlin) Betcher. He graduated from high school and served in the U.S. Navy for over 19 years. He was a long haul truck driver for 19 years. Preserving a Paleontologic Treasure Chest

Jean Parrish, 84, wife of the late Vaughn Parrish who was an internationally known square dance caller and teacher, died in Louisville, Colo., Sept. 6 surrounded by her loving and devoted family following a short illness. Juanema Jean Key Parrish was the daughter of the late Jess A. and Naomi Pieratt Key of Childress, Texas. Born May 25, 1925 in Kirkland, Texas, Parrish graduated from Kirkland High School in 1942. Obituary: Pauline Weitzel

Pauline Weitzel, 100, of Berthoud passed away Sept. 4 at Life Care Center of Longmont. She was born March 3, 1909, in Alexanderdorf, Russia, to John and Mollie (Mueller) Starck. She moved from Russia in 1909 as an infant to Minot, South Dakota, and in 1920 moved to Berthoud. On Jan. 16, 1927, she married John Weitzel in Berthoud. Lloyd Carl Conder passed peacefully with his family on Aug. 8 at the Life Care Center of Longmont. He was 83. Born on Aug. 11, 1925, to Carl and Opal Conder, he was a life long resident of Berthoud. Conder is survived by his sister Darlene (Bob) Botos of Loveland; daughter Glenda Conder of Louisville, and son Allen Conder of Casper, Wyo.; granddaughter Alisha (Michael) Conder, and great-grandson Tyler of Denver and several nieces and nephew. Dinosaurs and Other Colorado Fossils

By Doug Nichols Berthoud Recorder As dinosaur lovers of all ages in our state know, the Colorado State Fossil is the stegosaur (Stegosaurus stenops). This familiar herbivorous dinosaur with rows of plates along its back was officially adopted by executive order of Gov. Richard Lamm in 1982, following a two-year campaign by schoolchildren.
