Local soccer team takes the “Rushmore Cup”

The Club United Black soccer team from Thompson Soccer Association finished their season by winning the Rushmore Cup. The under 15-years of age team has players from Berthoud, Loveland, Windsor and Fort Collins, The team finished the Spring 2010 Season with a record of 5-3-1 earning fourth place in a field of 10 teams in its Colorado division. Habitat “ReStore” getting close

The Habitat crew had hoped to have the ReStore open by May but July is looking more realistic. This corner will look much better when the store and the roundabout are finished. both seem to be near completion. One of the signs that the store is nearing is grand opening is the installation of the sign over the door. Berthoud Fire Protection District Incident activity for June 2010 Tuesday, June 1 BFPD responded to a report of power lines down on Sixth Street and Welch Avenue. This was a phone line down and Qwest was notified for repairs. BFPD responded to a bicyclist hit on Taft Avenue. The patient was transported. Tuesday, June 1 This could be described as a “Found Day.” A Bernise Mountain Dog found in the 700 block of Third Street was returned to the owner. A black and white cat found in the 900 block of Longview Avenue went to the Humane Society. A wallet found on West County Road 10E was returned to the owner. By Judy Lehn In spite of uncooperative weather, the first annual Berthoud Art in the Garden was a huge success on Saturday, June 26.  The artists arriving at the set up time of 1:30 p.m. were greeted by gusty winds, drizzling rain and then a final downpour before the sun came out at the historic Waggener Farm on Mountain Avenue. Berthoud 11 and under baseball takes silver in league tournament

The Berthoud 11 and under baseball team finished their regular season strong by beating the Lafayette Warriors (12-9) on the Warriors home turf. The Lafayette team had only lost three games all season. Coach Dave Overholt said, “We carried that momentum into the year end league tournament going 1 and 1 the first day.  That win against the Sliders required scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to win 15-14. Obituary: Doris Houchin

Doris McKanna Houchin, 90, of Las Vegas, passed away May 14, 2010, at Prestige Assisted Living in Henderson. Doris was born in Berthoud, Colo., Dec. 19, 1919, to the late Linn E. and Rhoda McKanna. Doris was a welder at Rocky Mountain National Arsenal during World War II. She retired from the City of North Las Vegas in 1980, as payroll clerk and was a member of the Eastern Star and a charter member of Sunrise Mountain United Methodist Church, in Las Vegas.
