Elder Abuse

Elder Abuse

By: Larimer County Commissioner Steve Johnson You’re 85 years old. You’ve had a stroke and you wake up in a nursing home, alone and confused with a lot of questions. It is likely you will spend the rest of your life in this room, although you don’t want to accept that. Where before you took care of all of your needs and affairs, you are now dependent on strangers. Incapacitated and perhaps with some degree of dementia, you are now at increased risk of abuse, fraud and ... Full Story

The County Commissioners Column

The County Commissioners Column

April is National County Government Month By: Larimer County Commissioner Lew Gaiter III People often are unaware of the roles county government plays in their everyday lives. Often people think cities and counties perform the same functions, and in some areas they do, however there are many functions counties provide both inside and outside city limits. As county commissioners we have heard people tell us they don’t live in the county, they live in one of our wonderful cities or ... Full Story

Why Civility Matters

Why Civility Matters

By: Larimer County Commissioner Steve Johnson I’m getting to the age where I can look back on several decades of public service and talk about the “good old days.” Old lawmakers love to talk about what the legislature used to be like when they served. A favorite topic is the lack of civility in today’s government and public discourse. While the lack of civility certainly isn’t new, we ought to be concerned about it today because it hampers progress on difficult issues and has a ... Full Story

Karen Stockley for Larimer Commissioner

Karen Stockley for Larimer Commissioner

Karen Stockley for Larimer Commissioner, the candidate we need. My neighbors and I are concerned about fracking near  our properties. Industry representatives tell us this practice is safe. We hear about millions  of gallons of our precious water chemically poisoned and pumped into wells, never to be returned to the hydrologic cycle. Is this water purchaser from municipalities? We're told that we must build water storage because ... Full Story

Letters for Donnelly

Letters for Donnelly

Tom Donnelly has done exactly what he said he would do: Tom Donnelly has guided the Larimer County government through several years of declining revenues and increasing expenses. His thoughtfulness and success have earned him another term. Tom Donnelly should be re-elected. Because of the way Colorado property tax system works, there will be no appreciable increase in county property tax revenues until budget year 2016 at the earliest, and any increase then will depend on ... Support for Donnelly

Support for Donnelly

To the editor   I am writing in support of Tom Donnelly who is running for re-election in District 3. The election is countywide so we all have the opportunity to vote for him. He has held several citizen meetings every month and listens to all concerns. He has led efforts to ensure Larimer County places a high priority on openness and accountability. I know Tom and can vouch he has worked long and hard hours to conserve our tax dollars and will ... Full Story
