Like the boys team, the Berthoud girls basketball team did not make much headway against the highly ranked Lady Trojans. The Spartans were held to single digit scoring in each of the first three quarters.

The Spartan Girls Varsity Basketball team took the floor after watching the JV team win 38-31 over their Thompson Valley rivals. The Varsity squads had similar records and similar rankings. This should have been a close game. It wasn’t. TV controlled the tip-off and scored first. The visitors ran up 5 more points while holding Berthoud scoreless for the first five minutes of the quarter. Of course Berthoud was expected to win this game. The poor Lady Mustangs haven’t won a game since they defeated Frederick on Dec. 11. Their record now stands at 1-14-0 and Berthoud is now 10-5-0. Those girls will probably be glad when the season is over. The stats show that it was all over in the first half with Berthoud leading 26 to 4. The game was close in the first quarter. 8th Grade Varsity winning 33-18 The 8th Grade Junior Varsity winning 27 to 14 7th Grade Varsity won winning 22 to 8 The 7th Grade Junior Varsity losing 9 to 24. Spartan girls win over Silver Creek 42-35

The Varsity Lady Spartans started of strong against the Silver Creek Raptors, controlling the opening tip off and quickly running off 5 points. The Raptors came storming back and tied the score at 5-5. A goal by Wikre put the Spartans ahead again with 3:30 left in the first quarter. The Lady Spartans have nothing to be ashamed of in Tuesdays loss to one of the top teams in the league. With four 6 footers and a deep bench the Broomfield Eagles play a tough brand of ball. The Berthoud team certainly played hard and it was a defensive match with each side having a lot of turnovers.
