Date: October 19, 2011

Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith is pleased to announce the implementation of a new website for the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office. The site, www.larimersheriff.org , has a new look intended to make it easier for users to find the information they need.

The site has been revamped entirely with an emphasis on providing easy access to the information most requested by users. Future improvements will include access to warrant listings and the names of those currently in the Larimer County Jail.

The Sheriff had originally planned to migrate back to the county’s web site; however, in researching the issue, concluded that most agencies with robust web presence were hosting them separately from the city or county. The layout and design of the new site are intended to make relevant information easy to find. The Sheriff and his staff have worked with the county information technology department to insure that citizens have a smooth link between the sites. Sheriff Smith is encouraged by the opportunities that this enhanced site offers to the community.

The technical work on the website was done by Patrol Deputy Ryan Greene who worked hard on his time off to develop the site. A committee of employees continues to work together to insure the site is providing as much information as possible.

Sheriff Smith said, “I’m excited that our new website will make it easier for Larimer County residents and others to do business with us. I am particularly pleased with the collaboration our employees demonstrated in building the new site in order to keep the cost as low as possible.”

Lieutenant Andy Josey of the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Graduates from the FBI National Academy

Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith is pleased to announce that Lieutenant Andy Josey has graduated from the FBI’s National Academy Program at Quantico, Virginia. The 246th session of the National Academy included participants from 46 states, the District of Columbia, 28 international countries, three military organizations and five federal civilian organizations. FBI Director Robert Mueller was the principal speaker at the graduation ceremony.

Participants in the FBI’s National Academy Program must be invited to attend. Less than one percent of law enforcement executives are chosen to participate.

Sheriff Smith said, “We are extremely proud to have an individual of Andy’s experience and caliber as part of our agency. His completion of the FBI National Academy program is a significant accomplishment which will help us to continue to provide excellent service to the citizens of Larimer County.”

According to Lieutenant Josey, ” The experience at the Academy was challenging as well as beneficial. Interacting with fellow law enforcement professionals from around the country and many foreign nations was invaluable and provided a good foundation in strategic planning to prepare our agencies for the future. The experience has promoted a big-picture perspective of law enforcement in our global community for those of us who have recently attended–we are all in it together.”

Lieutenant Josey has been with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office for 30 years. During that time he has worked in both the Patrol and Investigations Division as well as at the Jail. Currently Lieutenant Josey leads the new Professional Standards Unit where he is working on a complete review of all of the department policies and procedures. He is also a graduate of Northwestern University Center for Public Safety’s School of Police Staff and Command and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Colorado State University.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy Program offers 10 weeks of advanced investigative, management and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies. Training is provided by FBI Academy instructional staff, Special Agents and other staff members holding advanced degrees, many of who are recognized internationally in their fields of expertise. Classes are accredited through the University of Virginia and students are able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits for the classes.

I knew Justin Smith was the right candidate for Larimer County Sheriff when I first volunteered to work on his campaign.

I knew Justin Smith was the right candidate for Larimer County Sheriff when I first volunteered to work on his campaign. I was first encouraged by mutual friends that attend my church. But, before I agreed, I researched the record for his priorities, beliefs, and values. As a law enforcement officer, Justin’s character traits are important to identify and affirm.

As time has passed, I’ve learned more about Justin and his character. He is a visionary with an enthusiastic spirit; a teacher with patience and benevolence; a server with generosity; and a provider with wisdom. He is an idealist when it comes to improving our local criminal justice system and an organizer by his efforts to engage the sheriff’s office in those improvements. Perhaps best of all, he is a good citizen and a solid family man who has the unwavering support of his wife and children. I am humbled to call Justin and his family my friends.

And I’m truly honored to support Justin Smith for Sheriff

Julie Starr

As a co-worker of Justin Smith, I am familiar with his character, his skills, and his ability to lead our Sheriff’s Office through this next four years. Justin has shared his vision of a well-trained and equipped organization with me. He has shared his hopes for a close and mutually beneficial relationship with peer county law agencies to improve public safety across our jurisdictions. Justin will deploy technology, reducing personnel costs while improving efficiency in agency operations. Justin will encourage the training and education of agency staff in order to improve effectiveness and raise professionalism. Justin will coordinate agency objectives with local criminal justice goals in mind. Finally, Justin will demand integrity and good character from agency members, an expectation designed to fulfill the expectations of the public we serve.

The great thing about these plans is that Justin has already put them in motion by his current efforts at the sheriff’s office and by his personal actions in these areas. Justin isn’t just talking about his plans; he’s already put them in place and is working on them now. Justin is prepared to lead. Please join me, elect Justin Smith as our Larimer County Sheriff.

Smith is a capable leader

I have studied the race for county sheriff and researched the candidates thoroughly, because I know that it is important to choose the most prepared and the most qualified candidate to lead public safety in the county. I have to conclude that both of the major newspapers are correct. Justin Smith is the one and only candidate who is capable of leading the sheriff’s department. He has the credentials, he is of high character and he has taken the time to learn the job. Join me in voting Justin Smith for Sheriff.

Deanna C Sloat
Loveland, CO

Smith is Most Capable Candidate for Sheriff

In the race to elect the next Sheriff for Larimer County, we have three very different candidates. The first, Mr. Bean, is a hunting guide who was a police officer in the 80s. The second, Deputy Harrison, is a former corporal and former K-9 officer, whose specialty is training dogs. The third, Major Smith, is a twenty-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office who has earned promotions through the ranks and who has experience in all aspects of the duties of the Sheriff and who has served with honor. Justin Smith has prepared himself by continuing his education throughout his career. After earning his Master’s Degree in Executive Leadership in Criminal Justice, he was appointed as an adjunct professor at CSU, where he helps to educate the next generation of criminal justice professionals.

I want a capable, forward-looking leader like Justin Smith leading our Sheriff’s Office into the coming decade. Join me in supporting Justin Smith to be our next Sheriff.

Marc Weber

Smith for the Future

I am honored to support Justin Smith for Sheriff. He is the one candidate who talks about a better future for our county, one of collaboration between city and county government. County government is doing more with less and needs to continue on that vein. It is necessary for our tax dollars to work as hard as possible and for our elected officials to be accountable to us.

Not only does Justin talk about accountability, he has practiced it throughout his career. Over the last two budget cycles, for example, he has helped trim over $2 million from the current Sheriff’s Office budget without negatively impacting our safety.

He has a forward-looking plan for public safety in our community and he has my full support. I ask for your thoughtful consideration in support of Justin Smith for Sheriff. Thank you,

Together, Justin Smith’s experience and education places him in a position on par with chief executives from peer criminal justice agencies in our county.

Letter to the Edtior

I have had the pleasure of working with Justin Smith, candidate for Larimer County Sheriff, on many levels in the community since 1991. As the chief executive of the sheriff’s office, the Sheriff will represent this large agency as it coordinates with the other criminal justice agencies in our county, large and small. To represent the sheriff’s office on an equal footing with other respected agencies, the sheriff must be experienced, educated, and committed to the agency and the career field. Justin Smith is the only candidate that fits that role.

No other candidate has his combination of years of service as not only a peace officer, but with years of service with responsibility for high-level supervisory and management duties. No other candidate has anywhere close to his level of education, a master’s degree in criminal justice.

Together, Justin Smith’s experience and education places him in a position on par with chief executives from peer criminal justice agencies in our county. He is hard-working, enthusiastic and a positive thinker. He puts working to improving situations and building the community as a top priority. Please join me, support Justin Smith for Larimer County Sheriff.

I have been looking at and listening to the candidates for Larimer County Sheriff. Each represent a different political party, but only one clearly stands out from the other. Justin Smith has nearly 20 years of current experience with our sheriff’s office. Because his experience is current, he is in tune with the current state of law enforcement and the criminal justice field. He has both a bachelor’s and a master’s in criminal justice. Justin Smith has the desire and ability to learn as much as he can about his career field.

Finally, Justin Smith has served as a supervisor, manager, and administrator over hundreds of sheriff’s office personnel and millions of budget dollars for the last several years. This means he has been called upon to serve at a level no other candidate can match.

This combination proves to me, Justin Smith clearly has my vote for Larimer County Sheriff in November.

Justin Smith values education, community participation, and most importantly, serving and protecting the citizens of the county.

Dear Editor:

I just finished reviewing Justin Smith’s web site. I have to admit, I didn’t know much about him. I originally thought he would not have many new ideas, but I was very wrong to make those assumptions.

He is a family man and with his wife, is raising two sons in our community. Justin values education, community participation, and most importantly, serving and protecting the citizens of the county.

He has the support and endorsements of many community leaders. I really think he will make a great sheriff. If you have any doubts, check out the web site as I did at justinsmithforsheriff.com.

I know you will be impressed too.

Thank you,
