Local students accept scholorships

HAYS, KS -- Several area students have accepted scholarships to attend Fort Hays State University for the 2011-2012 academic year. Robert Workman, a 2011 Berthoud High School graduate, accepted a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award. Workman is the son of Rob and Laurie Workman, Berthoud, Colo. Sara Hewson, a 2011 Thompson Valley High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in health and human performance and a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award. Obituary: Gene Ellis

Gene Ellis went to the arms of his Lord August 4, 2011. He was born in Smith Center, Kan. to Lawrence E. and Thelma Pauline (Rupert) Ellis on September 18, 1938. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1955 and served for 8 years as a sentry dog handler in the air police earning the rank of Airman First Class before he was honorably discharged in 1963. In 1972 he became involved with the Larimer County Search and Rescue. He was married to Jeannie Carr from 1958 to 1979. He married Carol Webster in 1983 ... Full Story

Pearl W. Wykoff, 91, of Loveland and formerly Berthoud, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, at Loveland Good Samaritan Village Health Care. Pearl was born on Oct. 6, 1919, in Ness City, Kan., to Thomas H. and Edith Annette (Tarman) Wierman. She met and later married Ellis C. Wykoff in Ness City on Oct. 30, 1937, and moved to Berthoud in 1949 from Bazine, Kan. Ellis preceded Pearl in death on July 23, 2002.
