By P.J. Dipentino Sometimes life throws us curveballs and we don’t even know we are at bat. Sunday started out like any other Sunday morning for our family. The kids and I went to the BMX track to prepare for the day’s racing and my wife set off for a day of work at The Derby Grille. Around 11 a.m., while at the BMX track, I noticed smoke in the horizon.   Fire caused by resident burning leaves and twigs Chief Merlin Green of the Loveland Fire Department began Monday afternoon's press conference by saying the fire has covered 900 acres and is 20 percent contained. The fire, while not as active as yesterday, is still quite active. The most active area of the fire is moving to the west-northwest. A smoky pall lay over the foothills and the Thompson Valley this morning as an overnight inversion layer kept the smoke from the Reservoir Road Fire close to the ground. The wild land fire between Flatiron Reservoir and Pinewood Reservoir west of Loveland has officially been named the Reservoir Road Fire. Initial response was by Loveland Fire Department with assist from Big Thompson Volunteer Fire, Loveland Rural, Berthoud Fire, Union Colony, Windsor Severance, Poudre Fire Authority, Larimer County Sheriff, US Forest Service, Lyons Fire, Hygiene Fire, Estes Park Fire, Wellington Fire, Glen Haven and Pinewood Springs. Major wild land fire at Flatiron Reservoir

A smoke plum visible from along the front range marks the location of a major wild land fire just west of Flatiron Reservoir west of Loveland. The location of the fire at noon on Sunday was bounded by Pole Hill Road (West County Road 18E), Chimney Hollow Road and an unnamed road on the west side of the reservoir. The third westbound lane Eisenhower Boulevard at Madison Avenue. —closed since July 6-- reopened yesterday. Early next Wednesday morning, the entire southbound Madison portion of the continuous flow intersection at Eisenhower will debut. Daniel Skeen Reports on French-speaking Missionary Service in Canada Daniel Skeen, a graduate of Berthoud High School has completed a two-year missionary assignment in Canada for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Skeen served in the Canada French Speaking Montreal Mission. Citizens report on prop 101 and amendments 60 and 61

The Loveland Citizens' Finance Advisory Commission submitted their report on the proposed ballot issues at Tuesday's council meeting. The commission is appointed by the Loveland City Council to participate in a review of the budget, evaluate all financial policies and report its findings to the council. The nine member commission delivered a comprehensive report on the effects of the ballot initiatives, Amendments 60 and 61 and Proposition 101. The report, though designed for Loveland, is a ... Two of the grandest shows on earth are taking place in Loveland this weekend as artists from all over the world converge on the Sweetheart City. The Sculpture in the Park show is in its 27th year and features over 170 artists and 2,000 pieces of sculpture. The venue is Benson Park and the hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Across the street at Loveland High School is the 19th Loveland Sculpture Invitational.
