Obituary: Pauline Weitzel

Pauline Weitzel, 100, of Berthoud passed away Sept. 4 at Life Care Center of Longmont. She was born March 3, 1909, in Alexanderdorf, Russia, to John and Mollie (Mueller) Starck. She moved from Russia in 1909 as an infant to Minot, South Dakota, and in 1920 moved to Berthoud. On Jan. 16, 1927, she married John Weitzel in Berthoud. Thomas "Dude" Wesley Dean, 86, was born June 30, 1923, and died Sept. 1, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ruth Dean, three children; Carol Fleeger and husband Wally of Berthoud; Daniel Dean and wife Denise of W. Richland, W. Va., and Lori Victoria and husband Stanley of Kingwood, Texas. He has seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Fern C. Patton of Berthoud, formerly of Elliott, Iowa, died Aug. 22 at the age of 92 at Berthoud Living Center. She will be greatly missed. Patton was born Nov. 1, 1916 at home in Braddyville, Iowa to Ed and Blanche Eberly. She was married to Ed Patton on Feb. 20, 1935; he preceded her in death in September 1966. Virginia Lee Shannon, a longtime Loveland resident, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Regional West Hospital in Scottsbluff, Neb. She was 86. Mrs. Shannon was born Dec. 2, 1922 in Loveland, the daughter of Earl Wyatt and Della Thankful Armstrong. She was the youngest of five daughters. Lloyd Carl Conder passed peacefully with his family on Aug. 8 at the Life Care Center of Longmont. He was 83. Born on Aug. 11, 1925, to Carl and Opal Conder, he was a life long resident of Berthoud. Earl D. Sterkel of Berthoud went to join the Lord on Tuesday, July 28 at Longmont United Hospital following complication after open-heart surgery. Sterkel was born in Loveland to Jacob and Christina Hohnstien Sterkel on March 8, 1940. He attended Loveland Schools and graduated with the class of 1958 from Loveland High School.
