Berthoud man was shot and killed by a SWAT unit after deputies say he opened fire on them Monday night. It's a policeman's worst nightmare, being called to a scene of domestic violence and finding someone with a weapon. Monday night around 9 p.m. Berthoud police responded to a call at 730 Bruce Drive. Berthoud Police investigate apparent suicide

The call came in as an animal noise complaint just before 8 a.m. The caller complained that a dog at 506 Welch Avenue had been howling and barking since 3:30 a.m. Officer Vasquez responded to the call and soon called dispatch requesting an ambulance and the assistance of Chief Glen Johnson. Shortly after arriving at the apartment on Welch, Chief Johnson called for the coroner. Police Beat: Oct. 22, 2009

Tuesday, Oct. 13 A Ninth St. resident complained, “Barking dog in the back yard won’t stop.” All was quiet when the officer arrived. Police assisted when an off-duty police officer reported a hit-and-run incident on I-25. Police were unable to locate a careless driver at Berthoud High School. The silver SUV was reported to have been speeding in the parking lot and driving the wrong direction in a one-way zone.  (more…)
