Doris A. Heckert of Berthoud, Colorado went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 21, 2016. She was born to Wesley B. Heckert and Grace Mason Heckert on April 28, 1926 on a farm in Lenawee County Michigan where she loved the farm life and being close to nature. She graduated from Sand Creek High School, Sand Creek, Michigan in 1944. Colorado militia massacre Cheyenne at Sand Creek Colonel John Chivington and his Colorado volunteers massacre a peaceful village of Cheyenne camped near Sand Creek in Colorado Territory, setting off a long series of bloody retaliatory attacks by Indians.
