Air Force (18-11-6 overall and 14-7-6 in the AHA), the second seed in the AHA Tournament, will face third-seeded Holy Cross (17-15-5, 14-8-5 AHA) on Friday, March 18, in the Atlantic Hockey semifinals at 7:15 p.m. ET at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y. Berthoud plays solidly but falls to Valley in districts By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer It took less than two minutes for the Valley Vikings girls basketball team to make it appear as if they had handily beaten the Berthoud Spartans. Berthoud Girls Basketball Tops Brush By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer Thanks to a 13-6 regular season and fourth place finish in the 3A Patriot League, the Berthoud High girls basketball team enjoyed a bye in the opening round of the district tournament. There was no rust for the Lady Spartans however as they topped the Brush Beetdiggers in a thrilling 47-44 victory in the BHS gym on Tuesday evening. Berthoud Boys Basketball Falls to University By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer In their final home game of the 2010/11 regular season, the Berthoud High boys basketball team fell to the University High School Bulldogs 47-44. The loss is the Spartans’ fourth consecutive and drops the team to 6-13 overall and 4-7 in the 3A Patriot League. Despite 16 points by Zach Ruebesam and 13 by Greg Hutchins, the Spartans fell to the Huskies 59-44. The Spartans played well the second half, staying with in one point in the scoring. The loss drops the Berthoud to 12-6 overall and 7-3 in the 3A Patriot League. Thursday evening’s game was the final regular season contest at home of the 2010/11 season for the Lady Spartans. Spartans end losing streak with 22-point win By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer The Berthoud High boys basketball team stomped the Estes Park Bobcats 69-47 Friday evening in the Berthoud High gym. The win snapped a two-game losing streak and improved the Spartans record to 6-9 on the season and 4-3 in the 3A Patriot League. Junior guard Zach Ruebesam was the star of the game for Berthoud.
