Berthoud Sending Five Wrestlers To Pepsi Center By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer   After the 2010-11 season where the Berthoud High school wrestling team sent a whopping 12 wrestlers to the state tournament in Denver and brought home a pair of state champions, it was hard to imagine what the Spartans would do for an encore. Boys Basketball state finals — Sierra vs Pueblo East

It would have bee interesting to see both Longmont teams in the finals, but it was not to be as Pueblo East defeated the Trojans 59-52. Pueblo will face Sierra in Saturday's quest for the state championship. —

It is a Northern Conference Championship Game for

Broomfield and Longmont both won their brackets on Wednesday evening. Broomfield had an easy time with Conifer, winning 59-32. Meanwhile, in a low scoring game, the Longmont girls defeated Cheyenne Mountain  by 9 points, 49-40. They will play the finals on Friday. With Longmont still in the final four for tonight's boys semifinals, Longmont could have two champion basketball teams.

Update on State High School Basketball Tournament

Girls Basketball The Northern Conference is well represented with Half the teams in the Final 4 of the girls basketball. The Broomfield five elimainated Pueblo East 57-41 while Conifer ended Pueblo South's bid 59-46. in the other bracket, Longmont, starting as the 4th seed, bested Cheyenne Mountain 64-54 while Mullen won 64-55 over Mesa Ridge. The Final 4 game at the CU events center on Wednesday will be Broomfield vs Connifer and Longmont vs Mullen. Of those in the final 4, only Broomfield was ... Full Story

Saturday at the CHSAA State Basketball Tournament

Boys Basketball While Berthoud may be out of the action, the Northern Conference is well represented with three teams in the Great 8. In the Bill Weimer Region, #1 Sierra defeated #4 Northridge 88-63 while #3 Thomas Jefferson won in a mild upset over #2 Glenwood Springs. Sterling, the #1 seed, advanced as expected in the Jim Baggot Region, but it was not easy. The game went to two overtime periods before the Tigers managed a 65-61 victory over #4 Centaurus. By Michael Hicks Special to the Recorder Online DENVER -- Maybe it wasn’t the medal that they wanted, but for Robbie Workman, Alex Sadlo, Casey Couch and J.T. Pickert it’s a building block for next season. The four Berthoud underclassmen placed in the top six of their respective weight classes -- Sadlo and Couch finished fifth while Workman and Pickert took sixth  -- Saturday in the 4A state wrestling championships at the Pepsi Center. By Michael Hicks DENVER -- Alex Sadlo, nearly pinned in the first period, overcame an early 5-0 deficit to pin Fort Lupton’s Matt Omelas in the second period of Friday’s 4A state wrestling quarterfinals at the Pepsi Center to advance to tonight’s state semifinals at 135 pounds. Fate wasn’t so much on the side of his Berthoud teammates. By Michael Hicks Special to the Recorder Online DENVER -- Maybe it’s just in a day’s work, but Robbie Workman made his opening match in the 4A state wrestling championships Thursday night at the Pepsi Center look way too easy. So did Alex Sadlo and Marcus Lucero. Shoot, Casey Couch and J.T. Pickert didn’t do too bad, either.
