By Thomas N. Walt Clark Middle School in Loveland was the grounds of an epic battle of words known as: The Thompson School District Elementary Spelling Bee. The bee was separated into two sections; a written exam of 50 words and an oral round. Thompson School District is celebrating its 50th year as a reorganized school district with a free celebration scheduled for Jan. 14 from 6-8 p.m. in Roberta Price Auditorium at Thompson Valley High School. The Thompson School District calendar committee has completed work on three proposed calendars for the 2011-2012 school year. Each proposed calendar, and information about each calendar, is available in English and Spanish on the district website, www. thompsonschools.org. The Loveland High School Wind Symphony just returned from their performance at the 32nd annual Western International Band Clinic in Seattle, Washington. Wednesday’s Thompson Board of Education meeting began on a very special note. Quite apparent was the empty chair where Dennis Brietbarth normally sat. Also noticeable was the single rose, placed there by members of the Thompson Education Association. Seeing the head of the teacher’s union with tears in her eyes over the loss of a school board member speaks volumes about the man and his relationship with the teachers of the Thompson School District. I received the following press release from Thompson School District this morning. I am deeply saddened by the loss. Dennis and I served together on the McKee Foundation board and we always visited at the meetings and at the Board of Education meetings.
