Three-Goal Third Period Pushes Brahmas Past Eagles

[1]

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas – The Colorado Eagles fell, 5-2, to the Texas Brahmas at the NYTEX Sports Centre, pushing their all-time record at the arena to 0-7-1 (including playoffs). The loss was Colorado’s only one on a road trip that saw them take on the top team from each conference and visit three cities in as many days.

Greg Hogeboom, the Brahmas’ leading scorer, got the game’s first goal 2:50 in by taking a long pass from Jason Deitsch and beating Kyle Jones from the top of the right circle.  Riley Nelson, the Eagles’ leading scorer, countered at 7:06 by converting a 2-on-1 rush with Dan Sullivan, beating Kevin Beech from in close. Colorado killed a pair of penalties late in the first frame, sending the game to the first intermission knotted at 1.

Chris Moran put the Brahmas back on top 7:17 into the second period by knocking home a rebound off a 3-on-2 rush. But again, the Eagles countered to tie the game at 2. At 9:55, Adam Hogg stuffed home a Joe Grimaldi rebound from the low slot while Colorado worked with a man advantage. Daymen Rycroft nearly put the Eagles on top at the end of the second period, but Been stopped him on a breakaway out of the penalty box and the puck stopped on the goal line before being swept clear.

Texas got the game-winner just 18 seconds into the final frame when Moran picked up his second goal of the night with a nice toe-drag into the slot before snapping a shot past Jones. After the Eagles killed a four minute high-sticking double minor midway through the period, Chad Woollard made it 4-2 at 14:06 with a shot from the left point. And just 45 seconds later, Alex Curran made it 5-3 as he cut toward the net from left to right through the low slot.

The Eagles will return home for their first games at the Budweiser Events Center in 2011. Friday night the Allen Americans will come to town, followed by the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in a delayed 8:05 (MST) start Saturday.
